Graphics adrive for X-Tahr 2.0

#1 Post by Geoffrey »

EDIT 04 June 2017, fixed Dropbox link

EDIT: 120217 Added more applications fixed some errors I managed to create.

Fixed fileroller, extract here on drag-n-drop right click now works correctly.
  • Added

    Winux10 theme and iconset

Kupfer an interface for quick and convenient access to applications and their documents.

    Updated

    Getflash version 1.7

I'm looking at adding Krita linux version at a later time, I have it working but it's huge, I need to thin it out a bit first.

EDIT: Fixed problem of Shotwell And Entange not working from the adrive, was to do with the schemas xml's not being loaded, fixed it with a script in the Startup

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/ &> /dev/null
Removed Cairo Dock, replaced with a new panel as a launcher.

Tested all applications, all appear to work as expected.

I've been wanting a collection of photo editing software so I thought I'd share this adrv_xtahr_2.0.sfs which contains some popular applications.

Copy this to your boot folder that contains puppy_xtahr_2.0.sfs, I have mine on a USB Flash drive, works faster on a HDD, usb saving is slow.

Note when loading this do so with a clean boot, as it overwrites the desktop setting and may conflict with an existing save file.

List of Apps:
  • Darktable an open source photography workflow application and raw developer.

Entangle a tethered camera control and capture.

Fotowall a creative tool that allows you to layout your photos or pictures in a personal way.

Gimp with gap video plugin and numerous scripts for image manipulation.

gThumb is an image viewer and organizer with a couple of limited options to also edit images.

HotShots is an application for capturing screens and saving them in a variety of image formats as well as adding annotations and graphical data (arrows, lines, texts, ...).

    Hugin - Panorama photo stitcher

LightZone a free, open source digital photo editor software application.

MyPaint a free and open-source raster graphics editor for digital painters with a focus on painting rather than image manipulation.

Nomacs a free, open source image viewer, which supports multiple platforms for viewing all common image formats including RAW and psd images.

Pixelitor a free and open source image editing software that supports layers, layer masks, text layers, filters, multiple undo etc.

RawTherapee comprises a subset of image editing operations specifically aimed at non-destructive raw photo post-production.

Shotwell an image organizer designed to provide personal photo management.

Tintii selective colour and saturation control.

UFRaw reads raw images allowing the user to apply input, output, and display color profiles.

SmartDeblur a tool for restoration of defocused and blurred images.( I found this to be unstable on larger images, it's more useful as a forensic tool)

SmillaEnlarger a tool for enlarging images while keeping quality loss at a minimum.

Urban Lightscape a photo filter to improve lighting, correct exposure and enhance detail during post-processing.
Feedback on this would be appreciated.

Hmmm, I'm having the same kind of problem like Entangle with Shotwell not working correctly

Code: Select all

'GSettings' reports ENGINE_ERROR: schema 'org.yorba.shotwell.preferences.files' is not installed
I will pull the files for the time being until I can sort out the problem I may just remove the offending applications and provide them as pets that should fix things.

Found the problem, all the apps work fine if loaded as a common verity sfs file, it appears to be a problem if loaded on the adrive layer.

I'll edit the sfs and reupload after some more testing.

Seems to be a problem of the layering.

SFS loaded at boot up (what was the name for that program, where to setup those sfs modules to load at boot up?) or by sfs_load will go to a lower layer compared to the layer of the puppy main sfs. The adrv sfs modules will go (afaik) to a upper layer.

No, but I gave my old drum kit away for free to a music store collecting instruments for refugees!

I would like to keep it as a Adrive, the problem is Entange and Shotwell don't work loaded from that layer,

if I rename the Adrive so it don't load that layer and I install it with sfs load then both Entange and Shotwell work,

but I don't get the desktop configuration that I want from boot, I was thinking is it at all possible to place

the offending Entange and Shotwell as small sfs files somewhere inside the Adrive sfs and quietly load them from a script

after the system is up and running.

Check for libraries that are inside of the adrv sfs AND inside of the puppy main sfs. Remove those from the adrv sfs, rebuild it and it should work from adrv layer.

Though, if there's some python stuff conflicting it could be more trouble than its worth.

I'm redoing the adrive, there were a few things that needed fixing, more apps too, will look like this with a new theme and icons.

Geoffrey,

Installed the adrv last night, and was greeted with the Leica screen & a world of wonders with all the programs. I am not a great photographer, but I do like to try & play with photographs every now and then. My brother passed down to me an old 35mm with several lenses, and I do try.

I'll be honest, a few of these programs you included I had never heard of before. So, I am trying to read as much as I can to learn.

Just wanted to say "thank you" for this. Your adrv really is someting special. Would be kind of interesting if we could have all sorts of "adrv" versions available that a user coud swap out of their frugal install at a moment's notice. Like say, yours is the photography one, then we have one that has many of the programs for video editing, then another one that is focused on science and math, another focused on web-site creation, and another for geography & spelunking, and another..... I mean the list would only be limited by our imagination. It's just an idea that easily popped into my head after seeing your wonderful creation here.

Anyhow, thanks again!

@belham2,

Thanks for trying it, it all appears to work for me, like you I'm no photographer, though I would like to be,
I just need to talk the wife into getting me a camera that's at lest half decent so to have a better chance of taking good shots.

I'm still working on the new adrive, mainly bug fixing, hope to have it finished this week.

Hiya, Geoff.

Out of curiosity, I'm just wondering. Is 'Smart Deblur' the Windows version, running under WINE.....or have you dug up a Linux version from somewhere?

I've been using it for a while myself; in my case, I'm running the 'PortableApps.com' version from a dedicated folder in /root, under WINE.

Haven't tried it on large images myself; I've used it a few times on various average-sized images. Seems to work quite well.....although the 'Smooth' blur parameter slider does seem to be super-sensitive, I have to admit.

Works for me.

Mike, it's the Linux version compiled with the source modified by WillM to remove the update popup, Ive used it with large images ok, it just takes a time to process them, it crashed only a couple of times for me, but all in all it work well.

I've managed to fix some old photos I took in the 70's that were not very clear, just have to play with the software to get use to it.

I have a Windows version of the same, I hex edited the executable to disable the update popup in it also, it works well too.

Mm. Interesting.

I wasn't aware there was a Linux version available. I have it working in an assortment of 10 Pups at the present, including 2 64-bit ones, and a couple of rg66's X-Series.....all running version2013's WINE 1.7.51.

Since I have the same assortment of PortableApps running in all Pups, the 'PortableApps' directory in /root is actually sym-linked from my remote data partition. Cuts down on duplication, of course.

I'll have a look at this. Does it have to be QT 4.8.1, or will it work with a later version.....like 4.8.5? I have 4.8.5 installed in most Pups for a couple of other things.

The update 'pop-up' bugs me, too!

------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT:- Where did this originally come from, BTW? Looking on the home site, it's only for Windows/Mac.....and even the Linux version source code on gitHub is no longer available, I see.

Mike, it should work with most if not all Qt 4 versions.

The source code compiles in Linux without problem, there isn't a Linux specific version.
amigo wrote:GPL3 Sources are here:

It's supposed to be working on mac now, so there is a chance that it would compile OTOB for linux. I never have QT around, so someone else will have to prove the point.
I proved the point.
