Tahr Firewall problem

#1 Post by nic007 »

When I activate the firewall using Tahr, I can not access the internet through a free (unsecured) wi-fi access hotspot. I can connect but all data is blocked. I do not have the same issue when using other puppys like Racy, etc. Any ideas?

I would try the following steps after excluding any problem on the side of the wifi hotspot.
1-Download woof-CE-testing.zip:

https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/woof-CE

2-Unzip it and look at the ./woof-CE-testing/woof-code/rootfs-packages dir.

3-Package in that dir firewall-ng and install it and try it if now works.

Yes, I think Tahrpup 6.0.5 comes with v0.2, which needs to be set up again after you're online.

It's not a setup problem because I can go online when using dialup (3g modem) whilst the firewall is enabled.

Okay got it working - Disabled the default setting and allowed dhcp in the advanced settings. It then worked. However, when I checked the settings again afterwards the thing had defaulted to what it was before I made the changes. It works correctly now, though. :?

What version of Tahrpup?
What version of the firewall?

Have you done a Tahrpup updates?
I do not have the same issue when using other puppys like Racy, etc.
The firewall program has gotten a lot of bug fixes and updates.
Believe it or not the one in older Puppies is probably not blocking anything.

The newest Puppies should have the newest firewall and it does actually block stuff.
Sime setting tweaking may be needed for some tasks to not be blocked.
The default settings work for most things, but not all.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Firewall_ng.pet built from latest woof-CE-testing works in wary-racy but not in puppy4.
