Slacko-6.9.6 (32-bit) includes the beta of pMusic 5.2, and it seems to work ok. It would still be great if you tested it and gave feedback when you run this Puppy. It is a massive update and includes some really interesting features. Look here for more info.

Thank you

Thanks ttuuxxx for the clipit pet. I sometimes have issues with parcellite not saving or forgetting my copying (not sure which?), maybe clipit will have a higher success rate. I never really looked at xerrs.log before, now curious what other errors mean. lol

I just tried to push this patch for init to woof-ce 'rationalise':

But the "git pull" failed, so now my local clone of woof-ce seems to be cactus.
So that's it, folks.

This should fix "insmod"ing of modules in init.
The "initrd.gz", downloadable from my site, has been updated with this fix.

What works even better is if you left click on the clipit icon on the taskbar and select Preferences
and select Automatically paste selected item
I should of added that option to the package config files anyways, after that every time you highlight something it goes to the clipboard, Works great.

Re: clipboards. One thing I don't understand is why do they keep more than one entry by default? There doesn't seem to be an option to turn that off. When I copy something then paste it, it's always the last thing I copied that I want to paste. The lowest both parcellite and clipit seems to allow is 5, not 1 (maybe one is a fork of the other?). Will have to grab the source and rectify this. Twisted Evil The only feature I like about clipboard managers is that they can keep what you copied even after a program is closed.

Well this is the way I like my desktop, No JWM extra pop-out menus, Taskbar on the bottom and a couple essential icons on the desktop, If I could get rid of that switch desktops my moving an object on the screen I would.
I like the old school basics Smile

Next versions are gonna have a somewhat more traditional desktop. Thanks for testing Smile

Sounds interesting. ttuuxxx: the Pop ptheme is oldschool I think. Smile Buntoo did grow on me once I gave it a chance though.

On a second thought (and look at the init) is probably because modules.dep is missing from the 6.9.6 kernel so insmod can not work without a depmod -a first.
It's because modules.order is missing.
Should be fixed in latest version of init, now in 'rationalise' on woof-ce.

I wrote a simple script to download and setup a local woofce repo, ready to be properly synchronized with the remote repos/branches (github) when a user enters commands, it only does the basic stuff to get you started.

this is a good start for someone who wants to contribute, but you must have a github account and have already forked the woofce repo (not needed if you have write access to the main repo or "upstream"). it's a big repo and very few manage to understand git/github, so perseverance is the only advise.

@gyro: Do you happen to know why it only gives me 497MB personal storage in pfix=ram mode, when testing branch gives me 2.4GB personal storage? I'm guessing Rationalise doesn't count the swap into my initial personal storage (1GB ram + 4GB swap). Is this intentional? If it's a bug, feel free to post what debugging I can do to help narrow down what might be happening.

I was curious and i think i produced something that produces a similar storage size as the init in testing... but the used space is still the same..

Thanks jlst. With your initrd.gz it's now showing "2.4GB storage, 2.2GB free" for me. Very interesting. I guess it worked? Smile

Yeah it works but, they don't have the same "used space". pfix=ram

In the testing init, the difference between "total personal storage" and "free space" is 10MB.

With my patched rationalise init, the difference is about 200-300MB.. probably the sfs's are counted as used space?

That's what I thought too, it's 2.4GB free for me in testing also. Still, 2.2GB free is a lot better than what I had before. Very Happy

Subject description: for the default start-up

G'day 01micko,

This is my personal opinion, not a generic recommendation of what to start up with by default and where to put these items.

I prefer desktop icons to run my usual packages so don't use pop-out bars. I delete them if they continually get in my way.

I run pwidgets down the right side of my desktops so don't like the 'slacko' where it is - in the desktop centre is better for me, so I usually replace the default background with another. I've started to use trio's wallpaper maker to do my own and include the Pup version title roughly mid-screen so I know what Pup and version of that Pup I've started using.

I also didn't like those three icons (lock-screen, zip and trash) on the right so always delete or move them out of the way as soon as possible.

So, of your offerings, I'd prefer the "original Pup" with the icons all together and the brand-name centre-stage.

"The devil I know", I'm afraid.

David S.

no savefile / pfix=ram

the tmpfs and aufs are mounted early as far as i can tell. in the old init aufs is mounted as the last step.

so basically stuff happens.

so in the end, remount the tmpfs and increase the size of the tmpfs filesystem according to the old rules... but also add the total size of the sfs's loaded in ram... to (compensate and) emulate the old behavior.

this produces a more "dynamic" personal storage that can have a different size on each boot.. taking into account sfs's loaded in ram that are now counted as "used space"

--

sailor enceladus... following this logic, the new personal storage = 2.6GB and
free space = 2.4GB
