Wifi don't work at all on this notebook

Hello guys! I wish I posted in the right section.
I have a notebook. A PackardBell EasyNote R1952.
Its wifi card is an Atheros AR5005GS.

I use Wary 5.5 and Racy 5.5 both.
I tryed to load all thr Atheros Wireless Driver that Puppy containes but I always have the same result "No new interfaces detected" ... I only have the eth0...

I also downloaded the driver of my wifi card (win xp 32 bit) and used ndiswrapper. As other drivers it loads but it doesn' t work

PLEASE can you help me? Puppy Linux is so good I don' t want to be disappointed by this distribution!!

This might sound rude, but did you check if your Wifi is physically switched on either in the bios, at your computer keyboard or if present, small button somewhere in the front of the PC?

As for the post and if its right here or nor, the answer i think is not, but that is ok.

I could not find much info on you laptop. Just in Italian(?)

So its hard to say how old or new it is. If its old, try an older puppy like lupu 5.2.8.7 or if its new, try a good fresh 64 bits like FatDog64...

Trying other drivers doesn't work. Either your Puppy's kernel has the right driver or it doesn't.

Open a terminal and run the command: lspci -nnk.

Find the Network Controller section and identify the vendor:product ID codes for your adapter. They may be [168c:001a].

Is a kernel module being loaded, like ath5k? This is a fairly standard driver that should be in Wary/Racy.

How do I enable or disable wireless networking?

You can enable or disable your wireless with a combination of keys on your keyboard, or with a dedicated wireless switch. On Packard Bell notebooks and netbooks, the following methods are used:

A dedicated button, located above the keyboard.
A toggle switch, located on the front or side of the device.
The FN and the key with the wireless icon on your keyboard. Usually, the key combination Fn + F2 is used.

The wireless key can be identified with one of the following icons on or near it:

When you enable the wireless feature, either an LED on or near the button or toggle switch will turn on, or a symbol will show on your display.

On models with the sliding switch, the switch itself may return to its original position after the wireless feature is activated.
This is by design and does not mean that the wireless feature has
been disabled.

Hello guys!

Atle... I would be extremely stupid if I didn't see a Wi-Fi button on a PC I have been using for almost 10 years

I'm Italian, from what I understand this Packard Bell notebook is called EasyNote "R1952" in Italy, but its real name should be "R4 Series R4622".
On Windows XP I turn on/off WiFi using the combination FN+F1, but it doesn't work on Puppy...
Windows "know" the keys combo for the WiFi, but how could Puppy know it?


I tryed to Disable and Re-enable the WiFI card driver from Windows and I used FN+F1 on Puppy, but nothing...

Soon I will post the result of the command that rcrsn51 asked me!

I thought those function keys are hardware/firmware controlled not software.

Puppy needs to supply the correct drivers for the WIFI but it does not control the switching.
I don't know whether just restarting/re-enabling the device in Puppy will work

Hi! I also have replyed to you in my second post (I didn't quote you sorry) so... I entered in the bios but I can find only basic options, I can't see any "way" here that allows to enable/disable PC components like the Wi-Fi card

At this point I think that maybe it's not a driver problem but a kernel one...

So my Pc has
---Intel Single Core 1.6 ghz / celeron M
---512 mb ram
---64 mb video card

What is the Puppy Distro that target this hardware in the best way?

Wary has older kernel, Racy has a newer one... but. none works

What do you advice me?
I never heard about lupu and I can't find a link... and slacko instead?

Wait bro... Why are you so angry?

1) In my first post I said I tried ALL the WiFi module for my Pc, so also the ath5k

2)The problem isn't "I don't want to reply", the problem is that "I can't reply" because the PC can't connect to Internet (as you see) and so I can't copy and past the result of the command from Puppy.
I am using my smartphone to surf on this forum.

Oh ok. It's [168c:0013] then there is also written (rev 01)

The [168c:0013] device is supported by the ath5k driver in both Wary 5.5 and Racy 5.5. Your machine is detecting this device but is NOT loading the driver like it should.

I believe you stated that WiFi works in Windows? So you know that the device is not defective.

Run the command: rfkill list wifi.

Don't bother with a screen-shot. Just write down the reply on some paper and report back.
