@Robert123 you may try to use and install mplayer if mp4 playback seems not working. mp3 is working fine on xfmedia. MPEG2 HD video works properly on xfmedia too.

@Pelo I dont remove ffmpeg. Thanks, however I have a very little time for maintaining this puplet so I try to remaster designed to have a long life and to survive different scenario also. But I will do my best to make active as possible as long as rg66 maintain his x-slacko. Forking my puplet or become a gold standard for puplet will be great.

@Robert123 I test xfmedia on large mp4 files (HD format) its unplayable but some short mp4 clips work. AVI and MPEG files are working fine. I need some help about this problem on xfmedia.

Yes Mplayer probably is the way to go. It is probably an Xine-lib problem I will have a fiddle with it.

Hi Pelo,
No it is not Xfmedia it is either Xine-lib or FFmpeg because I installed xine-ui and the same issue occured.

Pelo

XFmedia : what happens ? paroles does better ...

#46 Post by Pelo »

 i Insert a different Puppy xfce in my computer to check XFmedia elsewhere.
Xslacko 3.1 is my choice for that (first casting of this XFCE)
Damned libav, i should have believed that Slacko had not same bad choice as Tahrpup..
Hum, it's quite clear we will be unable to run XFCE apps with Puppy XFCE... XFCE is not a nice desktop. If no XFCE apps available, I Will give up soon..
US go home, Me and Mistfire, that would have been a nice test..
Site parole here
"First off, of course mp3 and mp4 are generally supported by Parole, but you need the relevant gstreamer-plugins"
something missing, whatever you do !
RG66 complains : "Parole failed to compile with a bunch of perl errors that I couldn't sort out."

@Pelo I knew about parole player. but according to rg66 it has too much dependencies but I will try the slitaz version of that player. I try to make the ISO file size as small as possible. I noticed that mostly web browsers and media players and framework contribute to the enlargement of puppies.

Old stuff ? I am sure people will be happy to use parole. I would be interested by your 'parole'
Parole has a special meaning in french.. (something promised is due) i check exact translation , for relax. Donner sa parole is 'to give his word'

I currently testing the parole media player. It works better than xfmedia especially on playing HD mp4 videos.

New iteration of x-slacko slim is released:

Changes:
* Parole player replaced xfmedia (xine-lib is now removed)
* Some fixes on sfs converter.
* Some changes on puppy remaster script.
* Add fail-safe feature on unapk script to avoid conversion of Android packages (which the file extension is the same as Alpine Linux)
* Automatic conversion of Slitaz, Tiny Core, Pardus, and Alpine Linux packages into pet packages when double-click.

@cthisbear for your concern, you may refer to X-slacko forum.

X-slacko works mostly on BIOS mode.

@rg66 is the creator of x-slacko.

Downloading and will test for you Mistfire.:)

P.S. Machine: Dell D620
video: Doesn't boot straight to desktop have to use xorgwizard. Same as previous versions found intel driver through Xorg Wizard.
Sound: working as is Video playback. Previous MP4 problem gone. Nice job with Parole package.

Ram usuage with no apps open is 92meg ram Wow amazing for a XFCE system.

Nice work Mistfire - connects to web and every thing works no bugs noted.

Just tried the newest iso also. On Midori, m.facebook brought me to iphone.facebook instead, that works I guess - heh. I get a "Segmentation Fault" on boot, maybe I'll reboot to see what that was about (didn't happen in the 180MB iso). Some programs like Abiword and Gnumeric show up as already installed in Puppy Package Manager even though typing abiword or gnumeric in the Terminal didn't work, I guess you are still organizing .packages/builtin_files. I did get Hexchat from PPM to work though.

@Sailor Enceladus that was the design flaw of puppy remaster script and remove builtin package script. I try to figure out how to remove that flaw.
