Getting away from the annual "default Puppy apps" debate for a minute......

Attempted to boot Xenialpup64 on this box with a Nvidia GTX-750 card,booted to a prompt. Ran xorgwizard,chose nouveau,let xorg pick the resolution and a successful test recommended the correct 1920x1080 resolution.
The result was a frozen computer with a blinking cursor. Attempted 3 times before booting Tahr64.Which is working fine.

I'm assuming a kernel change would take care of it but figured I'd report it.

The same, but not only. 32bits un-installed waiting mechanical repair Xenialpup 64 ( i don't really need 64, it was for testing)
However i will try to post a snapshot, easier than to explain in english

Xenialpup is beautiful! It definitely feels like a creative and fun distro, maybe even more than Tahr. Long live pac-man!

I cannot find in /root/.config/autostart netmon_wce.desktop. I have copied it from tahr64 and it now works.

Hello 666philb

There's a problem with USB storage on my Braswell N3150 system. My USB stick and an SD Card via a USB adapter work, but there is about 7 seconds delay after clicking the icon and the mounted icon and Rox filer window opening. With my 1TB SATA disk via a SATA to USB bridge it is hit and miss whether it works at all. Sometimes it gets stuck before the icon appears.

Luckily they all work properly with the 4.6.3 kernel that I built on Saturday decended from the fatdog 3.18.7 DOTconfig. So I have attached the DOTconfig. I don't claim to understand most of what is in a DOTconfig, but maybe the following extracts from messages will give some clues.
For the following bits from messages, I plugged and removed the stick then the SD card and then the SATA disk.

What works properly:

PPM Hangs

#47 Post by sszindian »

Xenialpup64=7.0.7

This occurs before and even after creating a savefolder (tried both ways)

Tried to install the hplip files for my HP printer from PPM. (One of the first tests I make)

About a third of files download then the PPM 'HANGS' Only way to logoff the program is a dead cold shutdown.

A reboot using puppy pfix=fsck results in a bunch checks/dumps then a kernel panic.

Have you installed the ppm bugfix before trying to install packages?

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 110#910110

I had the same problem with the ppm but the bugfix took care of it before I could report it.

I have installed hplip_print_scan_64bit-3.15.9.pet by rcrsn51. I am not able to find where I downloaded it. Send PM to rcrsn51.

EDIT: I can now find:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/0sdxt ... 3.15.9.pet

by rcrsn51. Try it.

This occurs before and even after creating a savefolder (tried both ways)

Tried to install the hplip files for my HP printer from PPM. (One of the first tests I make)

About a third of files download then the PPM 'HANGS' Only way to logoff the program is a dead cold shutdown.

A reboot using puppy pfix=fsck results in a bunch checks/dumps then a kernel panic.

xenialpup64 is having the same problem as the early tahrpup64 builds... the symlink /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu gets overwritten with an actual folder.

yet the same symlink in /usr/lib is being respected and is working normally.

you can see this happen... click on your save folder/file and navigate to /lib and then install libdns-export from the ppm. ... everything will break. :)

deleting the resulting /lib/x86_64-linux folder from the save will fix the install.

@James C
Thanks for the tip!

@watchdog
That hplip_print_scan_tahr64-3.15.9.pet works great and is loads smaller than the PPM 3-16 one...

@666philb
Your suggestion worked but I also used James C tip just to be sure... :wink:

Overall font size in Xenial headings/etc., IMHO are way to small, should be at least where Tahr fonts are for a more enjoyable experience with Xenial,

xenialpup64-7.0.7.iso

Lots of performance issues on Intel Core 5, apps freeze etc.

Attached a screen shot at boot, one sees that a lot of labels 'names are not displayed (or loaded?)

Maybe wait for Xenial 16.04.1 release?

32 bit libs

#55 Post by sszindian »

Xenialpup64-7.0.7

Looking pretty good in most tests... fast little bugger!

Wondering if there's any chance of getting a .pet of the 32-bit libs somewhere down the road for like Google Earth and such to run in it?

Thanks

Change kernel : unzip and type change_kernels into a terminal
666philb : easy, even for me. :)
64 bits however is much more trouble than 32 bits. 64 bits distros all alway searching how to run 32 bits apps.. Isn'it idiot, a little bit

musescore segmentation faut at start

#57 Post by charlie6 »

Hi 666philb,

again thanks for this xenialpup !

Just got a try running on livecd;
The music score Musescore segfault at startup:

Code: Select all

root# musescore
initScoreFonts 0x2ea2290
Segmentation fault
root#
It has been installed using PPM: no missing dependency.

Did not found any fix browsing the net...excepted that these application may segfault...

This might be the same problem I had with xenialpup, see http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=186

Edit: Just tested in xenialpup64. I had display problems similar to xenialpup.
I added the "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf" file, and problem gone.

wifi probelms

#59 Post by mikeslr »

Hi 666philb & All,

Looking forward to working with Xenialpup64. But currently have run into a stumbling block.

I am unable to connect to my router via wifi adapter using any of the following: simple network setup, frisbee and Network Wizard. All recognize my firmware/driver, find my network and offer to connect. Then all fail reporting a dhcp problem.

No such problem with Xenialpup (32-bit), or Tahrpup 32-bit or 64-bit. Don't think it matters, but Network controller is [0280]: Ralink corp. RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI [1814:0301].

Any ideas?

Xenial64-7,0,7

#60 Post by sszindian »

It appears Xenial64-7.0.7 likes 'RAM'

Conky displays 600 to 650 ram being used.
Cleared browser cache, only dropped to 618 ram from 650.

In Tahr64-6.0,3 for the same amount of activity we remain at about 200 ram being used.

I have 4GB ram so no problem but what's using all that extra ram?

I remember years back this same thing happened on an earlier build of puppy (can't remember which one) it was running around 280 ram when normal on other pups of the same era ran between 80 to 125.
