donations for puppy server

#1 Post by wanderer »

hi all

for many years I have had the pleasure and benefit
of using puppy linux for free

the linchpin of the puppy linux community has been the forum
which i assume is being paid for by Mr Murga

over time this must have cost him a fortune

I would like to make a donation to him
as a token of my appreciation

I'm not rich but i could give something
perhaps others would like to contribute as well

what are your thoughts on this matter ?

Hi wanderer.

Good to see you're still around! :)

Great idea. It's only natural, when you think of it.

I'm in too! How do you intend to collect the money and get it to John M.?

Through Paypal? By International Money Order?

BFN.

I'm hoping john will read this
and post a suggestion
since i really don't know anything about him

a simple way would be for john to post
a post office box address
so we could just send him a letter with our donations

anyway its just to express our appreciation
maybe he could have a dinner on us

I think it would be a great idea to have the ability to pay a voluntary subscription - the emphasis on voluntary so that those who did not want to pay, or did not have the ability to pay, could still log in - but those who did want to make a monetary contribution could do so when able. There have been some years where I could afford a donation and others where things were too tight.

But would it be an administrative nightmare to have a subscription interface? I don't know how it is done. Maybe it would require an e-commerce interface on the domain - which I know can be expensive. There must be a way - it just needs to be secure.

To contact JohnMurga.

Click on memberslist at top of forum.
You can PM him or go to his web site http://www.murga.org/ for contact info.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
