How to use Canon MG 2220 printer? (Solved)

#1 Post by scientist »

I am trying to find the driver and scanamp for a MG 2220 printer.

I tried this, but it does not open.
pixma_backend_5xx-1.0.23.pet

Are you looking for the printer driver or the scanner driver?

Have you read the instructions for installing the driver yourself using the "candi" tool?
I tried this, but it does not open.
pixma_backend_5xx-1.0.23.pet
That is completely useless information. What does "open" mean?

I installed the PET in Slacko 630 without problems.

Please read this section again. The pixma driver has NOTHING to do with the scangearmp program. It is designed to work with programs like xsane.

So I don't understand how you are trying to run scangearmp. If you want scangearmp, you must install the driver yourself using candi.

Try the newer pixma driver below. It may work with an MG2220 in Slacko 630 using xsane.
I read that section. Canon no longer has the driver I need.

I will try the newer pixma driver.

Andy

A problem with the "common" rpm. ??
# candi scangearmp-common-2.00-1.i386.rpm
rpm: can't create symlink from ./usr/lib/libsane-canon_mfp.so to libsane-canon_mfp.so.2.0.0: File exists
rpm: can't create symlink from ./usr/lib/libsane-canon_mfp.so.2 to libsane-canon_mfp.so.2.0.0: File exists
cups: restarted scheduler.
Done!

You said that you would try the new pixma driver, but you never reported on it.

You should NOT be installing RPM files - the instructions state that candi works with DEB files.

At this point, your only course of action is a clean install.
I read that section. Canon no longer has the driver I need.
I found it.

Not what your instructions say.
4. Open a terminal where the files are located and run
Code:
candi cnijfilter-common_3.30-1_i386.deb
candi cnijfilter-ip2700series_3.30-1_i386.deb
I suggest you edit the post.

I need more info than "clean install."
Thanks,
Andy

Fair enough. Give me the correct instructions and I will change it.

You still didn't report on the results of installing the new pixma driver and testing it with xsane.

If I knew that, would I be posting ? :-)

Installed pixma driver.

Made sure scanner was on and ran xsane and clicked on USB.

Nothing happened.

Andy

You should get the message "No devices available". It you didn't even get that message then your system is corrupt.

In any case, trying to install scangearmp for your model using RPM files is guaranteed to fail.

So, I am out of luck unless the pet versions can be found.

I am currently using a HP G60 system.

I am going to install Debian and see if the scanner works in it.

I have plenty of hard drive space.

?????

What does that mean? That you were unable to find the Debian driver packages at Canon Australia? Or that you installed them with candi and scangearmp still didn't work?

Google this:

Code: Select all

scangearmp-mg2200series-2.00-1-deb.tar.gz canon australia
[Edit] I also found the driver at Canon Europe and Canon Asia.

You are confusing me.

You told me that debian drivers corrupted my system.

On a previous post, you saw that I used candi to install the DEBIAN drivers.

ScangearMP did NOT work.

Debian is not doing well with my scanner either.

It is using my webcam as the scanner ??

Never a dull day. :-)

Andy

No. Your posts clearly show you using candi to install RPM drivers.
# candi scangearmp-common-2.00-1.i386.rpm
rpm: can't create symlink from ./usr/lib/libsane-canon_mfp.so to libsane-canon_mfp.so.2.0.0: File exists
Candi WILL install RPM drivers, but ONLY for a few old models that don't have DEB drivers. In your case, the RPM driver will NOT work.

Since you already found the RPM version of the driver somewhere, it shouldn't be that hard to find the DEB driver. The instructions for candi tell you what to look for.

I have tested this in Slacko630. You can install the DEB driver over top of the RPM driver and scangearmp will work.

BTW, you could install any mainstream Linux you want, but you would still have to use the right driver package.

Is this discussion over?

I got my hands on a Canon MG2420.

It took 60 seconds to find the Debian drivers at Canon Australia.

It took 60 seconds to install them with candi.

It took 30 seconds to make a permanent print/scan PET using candi-pet-maker.

It all worked exactly as advertised.
