do you mean the "Help" on the desktop ? I just went through the chapter about huge initrd and some other chapters. The information contained are very useful indeed.

But still I can't found the answer to my question of "how to pack another sfs into original initrd ". I mean the most simple way, that is, click on the initrd , copy the new sfs into the temp folder opened, then repacking it , and then reboot using this modified version of initrd.

thanks

Yes, I mean the Help on the desktop which opens help in mdview much better and faster than before in default browser.
Glad you find it useful.

Let us hope kirk or james will add an answer to your question soon.

Thanks L18L

Thre is another issues that comes to my mind. While remastering a few 5.8.2.7 variants i see that they come out fairly slim on the remaster side. It looks like for some reason Fatdog blows up in size, so for all i know it is something with comression.

When i take a pure lupu 5.2.8.7 and just install xampp(124mb) i end up with less than 400mb remaster iso. But when i do the same with fatdog i end up with a larger than 600mb iso. Still i need to take a test for this in a more scientific manner, but this is what i conclude with after making xampp remaster of both some 5.2.8.7 and fatdog

Subject description: script to convert local help system to web pages

Local Help files have been for a long time in .html format.
Then being changed to .md
Nowadays md is being used more and more.

Here is my attempt to convert fatdog's help md to html.
Core function is mdview --html of course.

My creation is making use of translations and the design for small devices (some alternate stylesheets included).

Copy attached script to a new empty directory and run it.
Click on any of the created html files to get started.
Have fun.

Code:
#!/bin/sh
# convert .md files of "fatdog help" to fully valid .html files
# add navigations: 1) for languages 2) for index and home
# foreign languages in subdirs; English stay in base to keep existing links

Dear Kirk and Jamesbond,

Since Fatdog 702 is final now, is it possible to create a version specific fo the Acer chromebook C720 (intel N2955U) ? There has been a FD631 release once (and I still use it).

Thanks in advance for your answer...(Y -or- N)

Gpptp 2.0 VPN for Fatdog64. This includes the latest version of the underlying "pptp" program.

[edit 3/21/16]
I've also compiled the Quick-vpn_tray app for FD64. This will create a tray app for those that use the same VPN connection all the time. It runs at startup, and there is a readme in /root/MyApps/Quick-VPN
[ end edit ]

[edit 3-24-16]
The initial install pkgs needed a file called "options" in /etc/ppp that was missing. This kept the VPN server you connect to from updating DNS. If you already downloaded either of the install pkgs, add in the "options" file. Download the "options.zip" file below and put it in /etc/ppp.
The 2 install packages have been updated
[ end edit ]

Download and remove the ".gz" extension for the install package. I had to rename it to upload.

It creates an entry in "Networking", and puts a Gpptp.desktop in /usr/share/applications
that can be dropped on the desktop. Edit the item to remove the ".desktop" extension.

Read the README in /etc/ppp/gpptp for instructions on usage.

Hi April,

VPN = Virtual Private Network. Gpptp is a gui frontend for using PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) on puppy.

It is useful for connecting to corporate VPN servers, and anonymous VPN servers. I use it when I'm on a public wifi to create a tunnel to an anonymous VPN (PIA). This keeps anyone else on the public network from packet sniffing my internet connection.

More info: wikipedia entry

Click on any of the created html files to get started.

Have fun switching styles.

How do I add a new user and group to the file permissions on Fatdog64. I'm trying to run sophos anti-virus but it creates the files with user and group permission as sophosav:sophosav. If I try to change the permission with "chown -R" it says that it can't find the installation directory. I presume this is to give people warning if someone tampered with the anti-virus software.

With permissions user and group as sophos the software can't open any files.

Edit I found some links which may help me:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=15839
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=27972

Hmmm.... I tried copying root from both /etc/shadow and /etc/passwd in geany and renaming the part where it says root to sophosav. That didn't work. Also I think I'm supposed to edit /etc/group as well. I see that the groups like like they are indexed so a straight copy of the line which starts with root won't work.

Edit 2
I see here that I can give a user root permissions by setting the user and group field to zero

I see here that I can test the shadow and passwrd file with the commands pwck and gwck.

I think I have to relogin to the window system to see if the changes took effect propertly. Cntrl-backspace than xwin and lets see if I crashed my system.

edit 3
Hmm, I'm still getting lots of cannot open errors. I didn't mess up the OS though. I forget to mention above I added in etc/group root after sophosav:x:1002:

I'm not sure what that does. An example of a file it can't seem to open is
"/mnt/home/usr/lib/seamonkey-2.19.bin"

Thankyou. I did notice though that the software did add the user and group sophosav. Therefore, I think my problem is trying to set up the permissions correctly for this user.

edit:
I let the scan finish now. 129594 files scanned in 36 minutes
108 errors were encountered
No Viruses were encountered
No Viruses were discovered
end of Scan.

Unfortunately facebook thinks I have a virus and won't let me post directly to my feed. I don't believe facebook. Also given that only 108 files caused errors maybe there is a reason other than permissions that sophos can't read those files.

I just now after completing the scan logged back in with chrome and certified that I have no viruses. But how am I supposed to know especially when facebook won't tell me why it thinks I'm infected. Some people think that this facebook so called security feature is a scam to sell anti-virus software.
