EDIT: the mt7601Usta driver is reported as crashing under Slacko 5.7.
So for MediaTek MT7601U wifi devices, Tahrpup 6.x is currently the only option.

No longer - LxPup-15.06 has the kernels after 3.19 driver.....using it now Very Happy

I dropped this onto an ISObooter flash drive and it worked fine with two minor issues.

1. I had to run "depmod -a" before my mt7601u adapter was detected.

2. At shutdown, I wanted to make a combo setup where the main Puppy files are on the hard drive. In previous Puppies, you are given the option to copy them. This time I had to copy them manually. After that, it worked correctly. Maybe it was because I made a save folder instead of a save file?

[Edit] No reply? Another waste of my time and download quota?

That's great. Well done.
The phrase "not quite" is, in this situation, more accurately expressed as "Now ..." since the quotation of my earlier post is from March 03 2015, when indeed, the only working solution was with Tahrpup 6.0.2-PAE. That's why I used the word "currently".

As I understand it LxPup first appeared in early June; three months later.
And this is "currently" under discussion in early August 2015.

All 100% correct - sorry to have confused - have edited my post to "No longer...."
Cheers

The vendor version of the mt7601u driver has always been fragile. It won't work in any Slacko or in Tahrpups beyond 602.

But there is now a stable open-source version available for 4.x kernels, and a few Puppies have it OOTB.

It will also work in Slacko 630 and Tahrpup 602/605 after a kernel-switch to k4.1.11. The same technique can be used with some 64-bit Puppies.

If anyone wants to try this, read here.
