thanks darry... I see both are there. I had trouble with Nathan's, and chose my method as default. Do'nt know if 'wallpaper' = Nathan's or not.

In my own personal versions, xcalc gets a font warning, tho remaining fonts are located in the exact same file-location. Evidently it requires DejaVu sans.... I'm using Liberation family.

True, but xcalc works in terminal even with the error message but this doesn't stop xcalc working correctly and I presonally prefer not having a desktop cluttered with icons. This pup is a good effort.

I made a pet of grun application launcher, I use it quite often.
The pet creates an entry in the utilities section of the puppy menu.
Here it is if anyone else would find it useful.

1 I tried to customize the navigation icons to the left of the address field in Firefox browser. I removed the FTP icon. Then I tried to add Forward & Back buttons (one icon). Dragging the buttons to this toolbar caused the entire Menu Bar to be grayed out. Why? EDIT: I restored defaults and edited from there, to my satisfaction.

2 I uninstalled the two privacy add-ons, disabled FTP and ABE, then set Firefox to remember everything, but I still cannot get any URLs to drop out of the down arrow in the address field. Why is this feature still disabled?

3 I exchanged PuppyPin with the same on my Slacko630 full install. Most of the standard icons did not work, particularly the Browser. Not much point in that, then. But I would like to put the file/Home/Rox icon on Desktop. Where can I get this icon? Is there a location in Puppy file system that contains such icons? When I copy the Home/file icon to this Slacko, the icon is not transferred. I might want to change this icon to one showing a stack of files. BTW, that's an odd icon for edit, a teapot?

4 In light of this failure of the Browser icon to call FF27, would you mind describing how you installed FF27.

5 I think I will be placing an icon for Terminal on the task bar, next to the Show Desktop toggle. I can't find the code on this computer. Anyone know the line of code for Terminal on the task bar?

Code: Select all

<TrayButton popup="Terminal" icon="/usr/local/lib/X11/pixmaps/console48.png" border="true">exec:urxvt</TrayButton>
6 I installed grun launcher provided above. Unfortunately, when I attempt to type anything to launch, the field is auto-completed, and I can't edit with backspace. As soon as I type a 'w', the field is auto-completed with 'waitmax' and I can't change it. As a workaround, let me see if I can copy&paste wallpaper. Yep, that worked, but it isn't satisfactory.[/code]

History settings have most likely been modified via about:config.

Home icon? >> /usr/local/lib/X11/pixmaps/home48.png

Should the fancy strike, you can rt-clk and set your own.

==

FF should be installed @ /usr/lib. On this spin? Possibly /opt.

==

Number 5? JWM configuration manager >> App launch buttons.

==

Number 6? Pass on gRun and instead use gExec.. "which gexec" will reveal its location.

And yes, "wallpaper" does in fact launch Nathans.

I'm trying to get import bookmarks from my full install of Slacko630, but bookmarks are backed up as .json files whereas FF27 seeks only html files.

Then on your lower right, spec the import type as "all files."

*Restore* looks to import json extension files. Import grabs files other than json.

The extension is actually .jsonlz4 and the only way it even appears is to select all files.

I did manage to populate the Desktop with commonly used icons. First I substituted PuppyPin from Slacko630. Then I copied preferred links to Root.
Then I restored Slacko5.7-2016 PuppyPin. Dragged links to Desktop, and from there set the icon. Most icons worked, except for Help.

Darn, I should have put the original links in Desktop folder in Root. Where are the original links sposed to go?

Odd. Have you tried importing it after a rename?

Which FF version's on 6.3? Forward compatible's frequently a nogo..

I see now, it's a *compressed* backup. Rt-clk and tell me the file type properties reports..

Hang loose, I can test myself..

I'm about to reach a stopping point, and time to save as frugal install. Well, as I recall, you can't just save to any partition, because the frugal install savefile renders the partition of the save inaccessible [unmountable?], something like that, cripples the partition that it's installed to. I remember this being a problem, and getting very exasperated with frugal installs. I'm only testing this version, anyway. I guess I'll put it in the obvious place, root of sda1, which is a 20-gb partition dedicated to the operating system, and thus is limited in size.

Just tried a YouTube video, immediately got a warning that my browser was out of date. The video loaded in buffer first without playing, then I clicked Play arrow, and it did play okay.

Question.. Did you backup those bkmrks from 6.3 or copy it out of the profile folder there?

My backup results in an *uncompressed* json that 27.0.1 CAN restore.

I copied it from Slacko6.3 full install. You say, or copy it out of the profile folder there. To what do you refer when you say, there. What profile folder?

No.

I've been able to create a save file on ANY compatible partiton so long as they've had the room.

Other than lack of experience with the before mentioned, I have no idea what you're talking about.
