Poor color printing from Canon MG2220 (Solved)

#1 Post by scientist »

For some reason, color printing is very poor compared to Windows printing.

I have printed in both Gimp and Seamonkey with similar poor results.

I can post scans of the printing if that would help in diagnosis.

 Oh no! Don't make it too easy. And don't tell us the make and model of your printer. Let the guessing game start!
Oh Mr. Positive. Oh boy. :-)

Since printer works fine in Windows, I can't see where the printer info would matter.

But here ya go.

Canon MG 2220.

Printer is plugged in, cartridges are full and Trump will lose the election.
Thanks,
Andy

Interesting.

Printer test page color looks good.

Installing Canon MG2220 drivers with proper color rendition

Modification of this link.

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 110#644110

1. Install the candi-1.3.pet attached below.

2. Go to a Canon download site.
https://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/Business ... -Downloads

This is file you need. -> cnijfilter-mg2200series-3.80-1-deb.tar.gz

3. Download and unpack the archive file. Locate candi cnijfilter-common_3.80-1_i386.deb and
candi cnijfilter-mg2200series_3.80-1_i386.deb

4. Open a terminal and run

candi cnijfilter-common_3.80-1_i386.deb
candi cnijfilter-mg2200series_3.80-1_i386.deb

5. Unlike debbi, candi does not auto-install a printer. Run the CUPS wizard and install your printer as usual. Your printer will be listed as a "Canon XXX Series", not as a "Canon PIXMA XXX CUPS+Gutenprint".
Thanks,
Andy

If you look in the media that came with the printer you will find, along with the Windows drivers, a colour profile file that has an .ICM or .ICC extension.

Every colour rendering device has a different profile in that they present colours slightly different to the standard RGB profile. That file is used bty Windows to adjust the colours sent to the printer so that they actually print the same as they show on other devices like a screen.

I have never actually done it under Puppy, but look for a colour profile tool for the make of printer, but make sure you buy a bulk batch of inks before you do since different makes of ink affect it as well.

Even under Windows, where most of the work is done using that file, I have often run through a set of cartridges just getting the ink profile right for photo printing.

Thanks for the good and interesting info.

My printer is printing fine now with the new driver.

My ink bottles contain ink that is not water proof.

Is that standard for ink jet printers ?
Thanks,
Andy

Yes most are water based. That is why inkjet paper is different to copy paper (usually) since inkjet paper needs to be absorbent on the surface whereas copy paper doesn't.

I found a water proof ink.

But the reviews I read said that the ink clogs the jets.

I use cheap copy paper but will look into inkjet paper.
Thanks,
Andy

Cheap copy paper is what I use for day to day document printing.
Inkjet paper is more expensive and I only use it for things I need to save or for presentations (like CVs)
Alcohol based inks will dry out and clog the jets faster than water based ones though they do tend to be higher quality inks.
