Future updates if any.

20160623 : slacko-6.3.2 and slacko64-6.3.2 are out addressing most of the bugs in this thread.

20151017 re: slacko64-6.3.0.iso only!
I had to reupload the iso. There was a fatal flaw in sfs_load - my fault.

So if you grabbed it before Tue Nov 17 00:04:24 UTC 2015 (Tue Nov 17 10:04:24 EST 2015 [Australian]) you'll have to delete and re-download.

Slacko website mini-bug

#3 Post by davids45 »

G'day 01micko,

Hovering over the Downloads on the Download page, I was about to download the 64-bit version but the hover box came up with '32 bit'. I assume this is the wrong message.
The 32-bit Slacko was the same but correct, of course :) .

Nice otherwise so far.

Nice to see a new version released. Looks like lots of polishing has been done. :) The new Puppy Theme Manager has come a long way and behaves a lot better here now. I like how it has a simple black.svg wallpaper, which seems to work well with Stardust_dark Tray. The download website has an impressive amount of useful information and seems well organized as well.

One small bug I see often in Firefox 38ESR with Slacko 6.x 32-bit (all versions) is that the top line of the tabs don't always clear after clicking on hyperlinks. As the new title displays, dots from the old title stay on the top of the tab. Firefox 28 doesn't have this issue for me though. Maybe a problem with how Australis interacts with Slacko on 1024x768? Screenshot is attached.

edit: Well, installing Dark Tabs is one way to fix the "dot remnants" in 38ESR, and looks better (with my theme) anyway heh heh

32 bit install pretty simple too. Installed a few packages and changed the kernel. All good.

Thanks James.

I went with the Plain Old Puppy (aka 'pop') theme in 32 as to not alienate too many users.

If you want to change it check out PTheme in the menu. Standard in woof are ziggy's stardust dark and light but I concocted 'buntoo' and 'pop'. There was a bit of contention in the woof-CE forum.. so I took matters into my own hands. There also a couple more in the repo (should show up in ppm).. winXP and OSX. You can guess why I didn't ship those.

Hello @01Micko and thanks bunches for all the hard work you have put into the 4 distros and git you are working on. It really obvious and MUCHLY appreciated. I have to admire how you keep all this straight in your head. In any event, it is Herculean.

I have a single question-topic at this time while I wait for the downloads and it is appropriate to this thread; being that this is "bug reports".

Service Management
Will service-fixes be via Service Packs (aka like TahrPUP great approach) or via fixes/Fix-packs (aka @ETP magnificent approach)? Or will it be a combination of both (this would, of course, be ideal)?

Thanks, again.

Have done frugal install of both 32-bit and 64-bit slacko 6.3 on a recently acquired Dell D630 Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2 GHz(64-bit) laptop. The 32-bit worked well OOTB. Slack064, I have 2 issues.

1 - The laptop has BCM4321 wifi card, in slacko64, it is not identified, loading either of the b43/b43lagacy modules has no effect. Still no wifi.

2 - The tray configuration utility, does not allow changes to size, postion or autohide, in the default setup. When attempting a change a duplicate line is added to the tray config, causing a conflict. See attached pictures. Other items can be changed successfully using the utility.

This change did not occur in 32-bit.

Thank you 01micko!
Tested without problems a new frugal install of slacko 6.3.0 32 bit. After loading a sfs file you have to restart x to see the new files in the filesystem. I recompiled motion detector. I attach it. The link to kernel source in Sfs manager is broken. I downloaded it from:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... _noPAE.sfs

I used the wary's p7zip-full and slacko 5.7's mtools for unetbootin: not found in PPM.
Tested working your pulseaudio skype: someone may need to edit the following lines in /opt/pa4-32/etc/pulse/default.pa:

Code: Select all

load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:1,0
load-module module-alsa-source device=hw:0,0

This appears to be a problem with the specific pTheme used, Buntoo. Specifically the 'restart command' line of jwmrc-tray1
If you change the theme through pTheme to any other everything is fine.

BTW, tray2 of the Buntoo theme is broken too. If you move on the other side the icons disappear. Is the 'spacer' line at the end of it that generates the problem in this case.
I guess the theme designer does not want you to change it . ( :P )

Yes, I am aware of this, just reporting that there was an issue with using the tray configuration GUI. I have set other themes using pTheme. also have edited config file manually.

Yes, i saw this after posting. Thanks for the information regarding the spacer.

save file default value

#18 Post by oui »

pls chg the default setting for "reboot"

from 'make a save file' "yes"

to 'make a save file' "no"

as the guy's don't using save file are irritate :x EACH REBOOT instead to be able only to hit Enter to quit/reboot without save file! this actual default value is completely unlogic  !

those guy's using save file can move ONE TIME, not more, the value with Cursor left

@oui: Is it really necessary to split your comments (3 related) into 4 posts? It is confusing to follow. I don't see midori browser in Slacko 6, or even in the PPM. What version did you download, and where did you find it? It's icons/layout look broken too.

I think I know what's wrong here. First it worked for you, then it didn't. Maybe you need the 'fdrv_XXX.sfs' for extra firmware.

You have to have a frugal install, then open the "SFS Manager" from the "Setup" menu and grab the "Extra Driver Firmware" sfs. It should load automatically.
