That's a neat little trick. Never saw it before.

BTW, in Seamonkey it's: Preferences > Appearance > Content > "Zoom only text instead of full pages."

Firefox does not seem to have this option. At least I couldn't find it...

But it doesn't solve the magnifying problem...my last image is a screenshot taken from the one before (Feb 20)
Screeny and MtPaint can't be the culprit, as it has normal width in MtPaint. So maybe something the forum software does :?: :D

Thanks.

Thanks. My Seamonkey is running in German language only and has no Quicklocaleswitcher, so I had to guess the English words...

Now in Fatdog700 I have installed Firefox-36.0 automagically in German language (sorry, no ad intended  ) gave help about Preferences:

Thank you! This option is only visible when the menu-bar is enabled (ticked). For some reason the menu button (in recent FF) does not have everything the menu-bar has.
(My menu-bar was disabled, to save some screen height.)

Yes, maybe in another thread?
We've gone completely off-topic in this thread...luckily it's "mine" and I am the cause of this derailing.
Sorry guys, back on topic now :)

Oops, the pWget.desktop file is missing from pWget-0.9. Apologies.

That means there's no menu entry for pWget.. (unless you've been using an older version before)
Here's a stop-gap solution, the attached PET.
It will install the missing file and nothing else.

Meanwhile I found some small, but irritating bugs in pWget.
A bug-fix update, with some new improvements, will follow soon...(working on it now :) )

pWget-0.9.1

#28 Post by Bert »

New version uploaded: pWget-0.9.1.
For downloading please see the first post.
Changes:
* Overriding the default destination folder from start window works again.
* Tool-tip style added to start window
* Missing .desktop file added
* Better handling of URLs that end with "/download"
* Multi_download improved.
* changed from terminal rxvt to urxvt

Some sites have the -bad- habit of appending "/download" to the URL. An example: "http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzi ... z/download"
This is a nuisance as the downloaded file will be called "download" in stead of the file name "7z938-src.7z"

Using the terminal, pWget has solved this 100%:

Image
Not only is the correct file name displayed in the title bar, the file is also saved with its proper name:
Image in stead of Image

In silent mode the file is also downloaded with its correct name showing in the destination folder, but the progress bar looks like this:

Image
That's the best I could get for now :(

Multi_download will not handle these ugly URLs, all of them will be downloaded with the name "download". Imagine having eight files in your dest folder, all called "download" : a hilarious situation, or a dramatic one, depending on your mood :)
I hope I will be able to solve this somewhere in the future.
For now, in Multi, just remove the "/download" from the URL(s), before hitting the "Download" (or Enter) button.

Bye-bye,
Bert

(PS. Note for translators: the .pot file hasn't changed going from v.0.9 to v.0.9.1 )

oz23 gtk theme

#29 Post by Bert »

I got a question from someone who liked the gtk theme I'm personally using and wanted to know what theme it is.

The theme is called 23oz.
I forgot its origins...it has been in my collection for years.

I've attached it here, in case more people are interested.
See thepWget help page for 23oz screenshots.

How to install
* After downloading, click the 23oz.tar.gz
* Select everything
* Unpack
* Move or copy the created folder to /usr/share/themes
* open the Menu > Desktop > Chtheme theme chooser
* highlight 23oz, click "Apply" button and "OK" button.

new version: pWget 0.9.4

#30 Post by Bert »

Hi all,

i'm happy to announce a new pWget!

I restarted from scratch and used YAD in stead of gtkdialog.
The result is a light-weight, fast and easy downloader.

This version 0.9.4 is a test version and will become 0.9.5 when everything is proven okay. So i will not post 0.9.4 in the first post.

A short presentation can be found here.

The minimal yad version on your system must be yad 0.26.0
It will work in older versions, but it'll look very, very ugly...
To check this, type this in a terminal:

Code: Select all

yad --version
EDIT Oct.17: Please see next post for the updated version!

pWget-0.9.4.1

#31 Post by Bert »

A small update:
  • xterm replaced by urxvt
    a sharper tray icon
pet a bit smaller, due to compressed icons
These changes were already in my local pWget when I made 0.9.4, and I thought I had copied them to the folder that became pWget-0.9.4.pet ... 0.9.5 will be perfect
The change to urxvt is important, as it gives a much nicer terminal and you can easily tweak its layout to your liking. (Menu > Desktop > UrxvtSet)

I hope so, too.

Testing 0.9.4.1 in Fatdog64-701.

Code: Select all

# yad --version
0.31.0 (GTK+ 2.24.27)
#
Tray icon and help page very nice.
I have added Comment[de] into pWget.desktop (see image).

My problem is: I have no idea how to "Drag URL(s) here"
(The window has the same look as in your help.)

Clicking Download produces an empty page, an error message would be much nicer.

Anyhow, I believe that 0.9.5 will be perfect! :)

Hi L18L,

Thanks for testing!
L18L wrote:My problem is: I have no idea how to "Drag URL(s) here"
(The window has the same look as in your help.)
I know you know how to drag :) So what can be the problem...maybe you expected to see the URL in the d&d window after dropping it there?
The moment you drop the file it disappears into the bottomless depths of the window. Just click the Download button, ready.
Clicking Download produces an empty page, an error message would be much nicer.
I just checked pWget in Fatdog. For me downloading works as it should.
The only difference is Fatdog doesn't seem to understand

Code: Select all

xdg-open $DEST
Instead of opening the destination folder with the file manager, it opens a blank page in Seamonkey :?
If you replace the "xdg-open" with "rox" it should work as intended.
I use this "xdg-open" to make it possible to use another default file manager than rox.

Thanks for the comment[de] translation. Will be in next version.
Bye!

PS I see the wget-help function in the right-click menu works fine in Fatdog, like it does in Puppy Precise. Unfortunately, testing in Tahr, the terminal window refuses to stay open. More fine-tuning to do :)

what and how to drag

#34 Post by L18L »

Bert wrote:I know you know how to drag :) So what can be the problem...
No, I don't know. Really.
URL is a string containing a "Internet Address". Right?
Example: I want do download http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 1&start=30

1st try
Highlighted this in the browser
clicked middle button in pWget window
clicked Download.
Browser tab opened: file:///root/

2nd try
wrote the URL into a text file
dragged this file and dropped it into pWget window
clicked Download.
Browser tab opened: file:///root/

Please give me a URL and an explanation what exactly has to be done.
You can add non-existing folders on-the-fly and they will be created.
Not with me. There is no mkdir in the script.
I just checked pWget in Fatdog. For me downloading works as it should.
The only difference is Fatdog doesn't seem to understand

Code: Select all

xdg-open $DEST

xdg-open --help wrote:xdg-open opens a file or URL in the user's preferred application.
If a URL is provided the URL will be opened in the user's preferred web browser.
If a file is provided the file will be opened in the preferred application for files of that type.
xdg-open supports file, ftp, http and https URLs.
More fine-tuning to do :)
Agreed.

EDIT fd uses spot for internet ....

Just a little bit nicer is this loop until not blanc:

Code: Select all

until [ "$DL" ] ; do
     DL=$(yad ... )
done

Nonono,

Your intelligence and experience get in the way...pWget 0.9.4 was written for dummies like me
L18L wrote:Example: I want do download http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 1&start=30

1st try
Highlighted this in the browser (WHY?)
clicked middle button in pWget window (WHY?)
clicked Download.
Browser tab opened: file:///root/
All you need to do is this:
Image
and click the Download button. It would be hard to make this simpler

Here's another example. Don't click on it (no need) just open pWget and drag the link (the blue word 'example') into the window. Click Download and ...done.
Same thing if you are in the site the link points to:
Image
Quote:

Not with me. There is no mkdir in the script.
This works in all puppies I tested (Precise 5.7.1, Precise 5.7.2, Librepup, Thar puppy.) No need for mkdir in those distros)
xdg-open --help wrote:

xdg-open supports file, ftp, http and https URLs.
This much I knew...again, xdg-open works perfectly in the distros above and in Lubuntu and Linux Light... only Fatdog doesn't understand a file in the file tree is a file, not a web address...

Clearly, we'll need some additional code if the hostname is Fatdog

This will be, hopefully, fixed in next release (see the 3rd section of this post):

@L18L: re dragging the URL
Perhaps it doesn't work in some browsers, but works for me in Seamonkey and Chromium.
Anyway, just take a look at the screenshot (Chromium). I hope it explains the matter definitely. ;)

no code for this, just the explanations of how to drag a link.

Thanks you.
The examples have made it clear for me.
And SFR's gif is super!

Confirm: After executing

folder DEST has been opened in rox.
Thus no extra code for Fatdog.

@SFR: Thanks for your help!

@L18L: If it wasn't for your question about dragging, I would have never realized there's a need for explaining this. I thought it was obvious...
So thanks for asking.
In fact the only good way to explain is how SFR did it, with an animated gif.
I will add a gif like that to the help page.

I just made my very first animated gif, with Take A Shot, a great tool made by ...SFR!
Thanks again to both of you.

Tray icon menu items

About
wget-help

should be also gettexted.
I get my help in German. Thus "help" should be translatable.

But text in an image :?:

Maybe changing to svg is the way to go.
Don't ask me how. It is not my domain. I am sure you find it out. :)
