Need Windows but want to use Puppy: Virtualization.

#1 Post by Galbi »

I understand if you are tired of me recommending this again, but I still think it's worth to consider as an option.

The reasons why you may "need" to keep your Windows installation can be many: from, not voiding the warranty, to some specific software that is not replaceable, to tax paying, to etc, etc...

Dual booting seems right, but changing OS to do some specific task, it's not always practical.

So... why not a Virtual Machine with Puppy Linux as a guest OS?

In a fairly modern machine, booting Puppy takes 15-20 secs, and once in Puppy you won't notice any difference for being in a virtualized machine.

Doing potentially risky internet activities in Puppy rather than in Windows, even the most paranoid, should feel more secure.

What do you think?

Opinions are welcome.

Thanks.

I'm almost on the same page as you Galbi, except, I reckon you've got it backwards!

I use puppy as my primary, host OS. If I need to use windows, then I fire up Virtualbox and run windows.

Agree with others Puppy first, Windows when/if needed.

Choice is good, whatever is decided.

I neither recommend or advocate anything. Just post info for those that do not know.
