Server change

#1 Post by JohnMurga »

Hi,

The forum will be read only for a few hours tomorrow as it's moved to a new server with a new provider.
Hopefully most of you will see an improvement when this work is complete.

Have a great day :-)

Cheers
JohnM

Appreciate being kept 'in the loop'... Cheers!

This. Absolutely this.

I'm only on one forum now... wouldn't leave it for anything :D you guys are awesome.

...and without John Murga, none of us would be here... so thanks to him, first ;)

I am going to do some work on the Forum software in November/December (updates, audit stuff, etc), and one of the things I was thinking of doing was integrating a chat page.

This would be linked into the forum membership (you log into the forum, and you can participate in the chat), and all messages would be archived and accessible.

This way if there was inappropriate behaviour it could be dealt with in same way that issues are dealt with on the forum (with innapropriate behaviour being reported to a forum in the same way as spam is now).

It is just an idea, please let me know what you think.
This was awhile ago, but yeah, I'm for it.

Upgrade complete-ish

#12 Post by JohnMurga »

Hey,

Apologies for the DNS propagation issues, hopefully they only last a few hours.

I had to re-import the database thus loosing about a dozen posts made since the upgrade. I apologize to those affected.

Basically I have had to hack my way around a couple of issues running the forum software on modern PHP, some to do with code issues, others to do with character encoding.

And finally I have not had time to set the mail server up yet, so new registrations will not be possible for a few hours until I do.

Please report whatever other issues you see.

Cheers
JohnM

Still waiting for mikeb to chime in with "Yes!!! FINALLY..."

Thanks for all the work you've put in, John.....and for continuing to host the Puppy Forums. It's very much appreciated.

Regards,

Mike. :)

BTW: Just out of curiosity, what's happened to the Flash ad in the top right corner? I believe some people reckoned it gave them occasional rendering/connection problems..?

In case it may be of relevant interest: in Nov 2012 I, Jasper, had a problem (fixed today) with Dillo failing to properly display some characters e.g. the apostophe ‘, double quote marks “
