PuppEX Tahr with kernel 4.0.1-PAE-puppex

#1 Post by exton »

NEWS 150501
PuppEX Tahr build 150501 uses a PAE enabled kernel - 4.0.1-PAE-puppex. (Kernel 4.0.1 was released 150429). With PAE compiled into the kernel PuppEX can address up to 64GB of RAM. Google Chrome is now included. Just to make it possible to watch Netflix movies. I've also added Tahrpup's Service Pack 6.0.2. NVIDIA Graphics driver 346.59 is installed.

NEWS 150309
A new version of PuppEX Tahr is ready. Most important changes: I've changed kernel from 3.14.20 to 3.19.1-PAE-puppex and installed NVIDIA Graphics driver 346.47. The Nvidia driver will be used if your computer/card is "modern" enough. I've also added Tahrpup's Service Pack 6.0.2 and Google Chrome. Just to make it possible to watch Netflix movies. With PAE compiled into the kernel PuppEX now can address up to 64GB of RAM.

EDIT 150112
A new version of PuppEX Tahr is ready. Most important changes: I've changed kernel from 3.14.20 to 3.18.2-PAE-puppex and installed NVIDIA Graphics driver 340.65. The Nvidia driver will be used if your computer/card is "modern" enough. I've also added Tahrpup's Service Pack 6.0.1 and Google Chrome. Just to make it possible to watch Netflix movies. With PAE compiled into the kernel PuppEX now can address up to 64GB of RAM.

EDIT 141221
A new version of PuppEX Tahr is ready. Most important changes: I've changed kernel from 3.17.6 to 3.18 and installed NVIDIA Graphics driver 340.65. The Nvidia driver will be used if your computer/card is "modern" enough. I've also added Tahrpup's Service Pack 6.0.1 in PuppEX version 141221. (Kernel 3.18.1 can't be used in Puppy/PuppEX just yet).

Today I have uploaded a new version of PuppEX Tahr. It uses kernel 3.17.6-puppex. Kernel 3.17.6 was released 141207. (So was kernel 3.18, but it cannot be used in Puppy Linux/PuppEX just yet).

Hope it works this time. If not I have to throw in the towel.

Older computers (and others) are often non-PAE and you don't need more than 4 gb RAM to run Puppy/PuppEX anyways. I.e.: You have no use for more than 4 GB. (Normally).

lol...

I guess you've never ran a Second Life viewer/client, a single instance will chew up 2 gigs, and if you want to run multiples...
I image other apps, like video editing, can use as much ram as possible.

The reason I use a Puppy, is that the resources are used for the applications, and not for the OS.

I regret to advise that the touchpad doesn't work still.

Please don't feel bad. I'm sure many out there will find your remaster useful.
If it's any consolation, the touchpad also did not work on tahrpup 6.0 CE with the kernel 3.17 that was made available after the pup's release.

I truly appreciate your effort to make your remaster better for my chromebook.

All the best in your future releases

Well, maybe I'll have to change my mind about this...

I was only joking. I never give up. I will try again when kernel 3.18 is ready for Puppy.
