Seems PL and DSL are the only distros left for older boxes

What works, and doesn't, for you. Be specific, and please include Puppy version.

Ok Griot, at least you are past grub and the problem is with the distro itself.

You also have a better idea of what to do when testing others.

On the question if you want grub. Say yes and install it to / of where you have the AntiX root partition. it will reside /boot/grub as a menu.list instead of mbr.
Also. Best to use UUID instead of /dev/sdx in the kernel line. grub4dos will see it just fine. I usually when using grub4dos would chainload into antix and let antix grub /boot/grub/menu.lst take over loading the operating system from there.

Bug testing so you guys do not have to. Posting this now from

Which is pentium 3 1000hz with the newest xorg that hates savage chips and drivers because they are getting old as dirt.

PS. I bet the new kernels and new xorg will evenly hate sis chips and drivers also. Among other older gear.

There's a lot to hate about SIS chips... should never have been born comes to mind :D ... was like walking through cold custard in hairy boots when I had one...

savage. was before rage 128 stuff IIRC... so yep getting old. The rage was quite good but then I discovered NVidia..... Ebay does have its useful side :)

Only bum is one machines AGP interface seems to have gone haywire :( ....messes up gaming on the olde beastie. Oh well back to the real world and salt water....

I still run my slightly modified Puppy LupuPlus 5.2.8.005-1 off a live cd on my 12-15 year old PCs with 528Mb RAM without any problems, dpup 484beta4 run on just about all, even some old PII boxes.

Ah yes the topic :D

Ok run slax6/nimblex with xfce4 on the pentium 3 compaqs with 512mb ram daily for several years now... works nicely thank you. Windows 2000 for the dark side, puppy and XP for playing...

Working on a lucid/slax based replacement as an all round replacement for all.... slowly.

By the way some switch cleaner in the AGP socket seems to have sorted it...fingers and other limbs crossed.
