Although the forum is a very good way of keeping in touch there has been so much trouble with the forum lately I have been thinking about alternatives or complementary means of communicating. Lately I have gotten the message that there are three pages with unread messages but when I read the first page and click next suddenly there are no more unread messages. I am a big fan of the usenet and so I wondered if there would be any interest in creating a Puppy newsgroup for example as alt.os.linux.puppy or comp.os.linux.puppy or a group within the Google hierarchy. This would enable us to catch the newsgroup community and have an alternative channel of communication. It would probably relieve John Murga of a lot of pressure and be stable and reliable. Any thoughts?

Newsgroups beat forums any day, I'm with you guys on that one.
However, one BIG downer is that it's very hard to get google to include any new groups for archiving. Even alt.os.linux.ubuntu isn't getting archived, and that's a high-visibility high traffic group.
BTW, forget comp.os.linux.puppy, it would take months of voting and then fail, there haven't been any new comp.os.linux.* for a long time and a lot of old ones are dead, so no chance there.
Also, it doesn't really decrease the workoad because someone still has to maintain the website, the FAQ, the wiki, the upload/download area etc etc. In fact, all the stuff that nobody very much wants to do now....
Finally, Puppy doesn't come with anything resembling a decent newsreader, whereas it does come with a browser.
So, while newsgroups are far more effective and efficient than forums, in this case it might not work very well due to a confluence of environmental factors. Sorry to sound negative.
