!!! this version is outdated !!!

:!: use 007 instead :!:

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=14558

#########################

Basically bugfixes, some small addons.
Mplayer now is RC1 with Realaudio-codecs and GL-support (needed for Ati-fglrxdrivers).

This version uses unicode, that is not 100% supported, but seems to work pretty well.
XFE displayes äöü strange, but you still can copy these files.
Icewm works fine with äöüß ø , but not with ć in the titlebars.
Default filemanager is Rox2, better integrated than in Muppy 005.

Some small new apps:
upgrade of dvdtool, Pizzasgoods Defaultseditor, Fox calculator, Schweizer Uhr (Flash clock for the desktopbackground), webcam (gspca/xawtv), mc and mcedit (midnight commander, filemanager and editor for the console).
Also cups from Pakt was updated to 0.3.

The boot-scripts were completely replaced to avoid mount-problems of older Muppys.
This is the most important change beside UTF-8.

If you want to upgrade from 005, this should work:
Make a backup of pup_save.3fs.
Delete mupp_212.sfs from your harddisk.
Do it while it is not mounted, so start from a CD with the boot-option
puppy pfix=ram
Then install this dotpup in Muppy 005:
http://htb65.de/puppylinux/puppy-releas ... pgrade.pup
Finally reboot with the Muppy 006 CD.
Not tested, but I hope it works.

Download (246 MB):
http://htb65.de/puppylinux/puppy-releas ... 06-212.iso
http://htb65.de/puppylinux/puppy-releas ... so.md5.txt
Also install this small bugfix:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Muppylinux/Mu ... cepack.pup
You also should upgrade the icedock:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=13682

Note: please use the arrow-keys on the numpad to choose between xorg ad xvesa.

There still might be smaller glitches, please report them.
I'm away this weekend, so will reply next week.

Enjoy :)
Mark

:D

congratulations

gonna try and have a good look at this
have put it on the wiki news with a Muppy Logo . . .
Image

The first thing I did was copy my save file and some other file onto the HD - so I can get back to Puppy 2.12

First I booted up using my old settings from 2.12 and that went OK - there is now German support and I went for the "all in Ram" option as I have 512MB which should be OK

Next boot I used only Muppy (that means I typed puppy pfix=ram") when booting

It is rather amazing
I changed the clock - yep I went for gimmick first :)
changed to XP silver theme - stuck on shadow
closed down that fish swimming dock

Just great refinements and MU add ons in here
need Open Office - a wizard offers a download . . .

Time to play . . . :)

Thanks Mark

Had a brief look last night - very nice.
The shutdown issue seems to persist, as with other Puppy version.
There are problems starting and running X. When I press rh cursor key to activate Xorg, it immediately started Xorg testing, but put me into Xvesa??? Furthermore, a very common issue with several distros, I couldn't shift the open window sufficiently on set up screens, when running at 800x600 on an old 15" monitor, to get at the close-button top rhs, or other instruction buttons bottom rhs. Some scaling issue, no doubt.
Will try to find time to confirm or otherwise reproducibility today and also run it up on better HW.

Yes, please use the arrow-keys on the numpad to choose between xorg ad xvesa.
That might work.
This is a bug, that I only encountered in the final Iso, while I uploaded it. I have tried it on 2 computers, so it seems to be a error in the wizard.
Or try xorgwizard again later to use xvesa.

I have no idea what is causing it.
Might have to do with the unicode-settings.
I also encountered that the keyboard-wizard from the Puppy-menu does not work with unicode-settings (if you want to change the keyboard later).
Xdialog then saves a line "locale not supported" instead of the "de.map".
So the wizard had to use "tail" to get the choice and to ignore error-warnings.
I encountered this, when I chose a US-keyboard at startup by accident, and later wanted to use a german one.
Workaround:
Use "chooselocale" to set a non-UTF-8 locale temporarily.
There might be a similar issue with the xorgwizard.
I'll release a bugfix next week.

if the window manager is icewm, just hold the alt key and drag the window with the left mouse button, then you can get at the rest of the window

I think we did this one before, G2?!
It doesn't always wrok (sic)!
Mostly in many, many Linux distros, the problem is raising the window to expose the bottom buttons, but sometimes, horizontal scrolling is defeated, too.
It has, over several years, been very difficult to convince distro makers that regular users, in their transition phase, are most likely to test someone's masterpiece on really old, cr*p, HW.

Distro engineers: make sure your creations work 100% on a 14" vga @640x480 !!!! If you fail on this, you could lose another convert.

Hi Mu, very nice indeed and the speed of booting is about the same as standard puppy 2.12. Have you included the network speed up by working in back ground? It's so fast compared to standard puppy.

I 've found a few bugs so far and a couple of suggestions if I may. I have a feeling that yours is the breed of Puppy I've been waiting for.

Gimp and O.O. F.F. and Thunderbird included in the standard iso pretty please, any time I try and add anything to puppy it goes wrong 9 times out of 10...

Bugs, no response to my usb keyboard on boot up, I have to use a PS2 also attached to answer "Y"

How do I close the lovely clock that is in Gimmicks?

Expose2now just does wierd thinbgs when I click on it.

More to follow, I have to dash out now.

Thanks again
Tony

@veronicathecow

Pakt has found the reason and a - working! - solution for the keyboard issue. Have a look in in the Muppy 004/005 thread, page 7

vabene, did you upgrade or run without old pup_save.sfs?

--------------------------------------------------

veronicathecow, yes, I think of adding Gimp.
I also created a iso including OpenOffice, but had no time to upload it.
Works fine though.

I think when I removed the final bugs reported here, I might upload a new version, then in 2 flavours.

Muppy standard and Muppy Office.
And maybe a Muppy-games in january/february.

I also plan to add xfwm as an alternative to icewm for better UTF-support in the titlebars.
This would make it easier to port Muppys language-addons from german to asian or other languages.

Now back to party, I'm back on monday ;)

That's strange vabene, I'll try to find out what is going on.

You could help me.
Please create a script in leafpad.

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

rxvt 2>&1 1>/root/error.txt
Make it executable with a rightclick in Rox.
Then click on it to run it.

Then open /root/error.txt and post the result here.
Maybe this gives us a hint.
Do you use xorg or xvesa?

Also try to run "chooselocale" from the menu, and choose a language without ".UTF-8".
Does it work then after restarting the computer?

Thanks for your report :)

I had Muppy 001 and didn't find any upgrade instructions so I went ahead.
Should I have taken precautions?
I got the conversion thing from 211 to 212.
I used my existing pup_save from Muppy and I don't seem to have problems.
I just have a remark on the internet menu
It states as browser SeaMonkey, while in reality it is FireFox. Not the same for me.
It states for mail SeaMonkey and it is in reality SeaMonkey, not Thunderbird.
rowser)
Now from there I can call the browser part of SeaMonkey.
So why not have an entry to call FireFox and one to call SeaMonkey (browser)

Awesome version of puppy as expected, thanks. Two apps that I'd like to see included if possible would be:

VMware player
Comix - http://comix.sourceforge.net/

Question: How do I configure that Icedock thing? Hate the fish :)

Yeah the fish didn't suit me either. I'm new to Icewm and I read a little about this on the forum somewhere. Maybe it was something on Icewm-ultra?
 To (sort of) rearrange items in the Icedock, point your mouse at the edge or empty area and roll the mouse wheel. (Edit) Click and drag on the handle (narrow top edge) to move the dock along any corner or edge of the screen.

 (Edit) See Mark's great new Icedock Wizard here and the configuration file (/root/.Muppyicedock/template-icedockrc which updates /root/.icedockrc) for additional options, including
layout=vertical|horizontal and placement=topleft|topcenter|topright|leftcenter|rightcenter|bottomleft|bottomcenter|bottomright

 (Edit) To change colors, add and remove the icedock apps use the same Icedock Wizard. Makes it easy to accomplish everything described below and more.

To remove the fish entirely from the dock, click on the Quick Launch Menu (third button on bottom taskbar, after Start and Show Desktop) and click 'edit startup'. That should open ~/.icewm/startup in a text editor. This script is executed by starticewm when IceWM starts. Comment a line as follows:

wmfishtime &
#wmfishtime &

Save the file and restart Icewm

I decided to do the same with
#volume.app &
because I use the smaller wmix volume control instead.

Also in Quick Launch is 'edit weather-app' where you can set your station id for weather indicators to your location. That opens the file /etc/wmweather.conf. Mine is KPSC -- K plus the nearest three letter airport code. Hmm, I wonder if the K is unique to this area or the same throughout the US?
