Reserved for Additional info, tips & FAQ:

1. The Prt Scr key invokes PupSnap.

2. The black Retrovol speaker icon does not show up well with the default wallpaper.
To rectify this install the attached dotpet, then open up a terminal and type one of the following:

Code: Select all

# retrovol_speaker green
# retrovol_speaker blue
# retrovol_speaker yellow
# retrovol_speaker red
# retrovol_speaker orange
# retrovol_speaker cyan
# retrovol_speaker magenta
TIP:
magenta looks O/K.

3. EDIT 14th Feb - Known problem.

Upon restarting X following for example a language change, the default wallpaper may be replaced by a grey GTK background.
To avoid or rectify that problem please download the wallpaper in the fix directory and place it in
/usr/share/backgrounds. Then reboot ensuring that you save the session.
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing

4. EDIT 20th Feb - PPM Problem.
A service pack is attached which addresses a couple of issues in PPM.
Thanks go to forum member Billtoo for identifying the problem and to forum
member Radky for providing the solutions.

5. EDIT
For users of Netflix a pet (ucf2fsNetflixFix-V1)is available in the download folder to create a menu item.
The main icon can be dragged onto the desktop from usr/share/applications once the pet has been installed.

Netflix working then not working.

#4 Post by ETP »

Hi Sylvander,

Chrome extensions are sometimes slow to update.
To force an update visit the Extensions page and tick developer mode.
Then click on the "Update extensions now" tab which will appear.
Allow a few minutes for all extensions to update.
Untick developer mode when they have.

Cast should move to 15.114.0.1 (Rollout commenced 28th January)
Videostream to 2.0.1.3 if not already on it. (Rollout commenced 29th January)

Also power cycle your Chromecast dongle as firmware version 22062
was rolled out starting on 20th January.
(You cannot check the version without the Android app but a power cycle
should ensure that it updates.)

Will do, and report back when completed.

Job done; "Google Cast" now fully functioning, video displaying on TV via Chromecast dongle.

I do not comprehend.
What exactly does it mean to: "power cycle your Chromecast dongle"?

Which Android app?
How do I check the version?

The Chromecast app is already version 22062, as is specified as the latest, so there's no need to update. :D
The "Chromecast" app was listed amongst the installed apps on the "Samsung Galaxy Tab-2" 10.1 tablet running Android-4.2.2.

Many thanks for your assistance.
I'm delighted.
Yet again your help has been much valued. :D

UCF2FS Pup – Released January 2015 -Popcorn Time

#12 Post by Billtoo »

To test it's portability (and for something to do) I moved the verbatim
usb multi card reader to my mac mini and booted up UCF2FS Pup:

video-info-glx 1.5.3 Tue 17 Feb 2015 on unicornpup 6.0 Linux 3.14.20 i686
2.0 VGA compatible controller:
Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)
oem: Intel(R) Sandybridge/Ivybridge Graphics Chipset Accelerated VGA BIOS
product: Intel(R) Sandybridge/Ivybridge Graphics Controller Hardware Version 0.0

X Server: Xorg Driver: intel
X.Org version: 1.16.0
dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels (507x285 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes

direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ivybridge Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 10.3.0

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz
Core 0: @1549 1: @1540 2: @1527 3: @1569 MHz

It went straight to the desktop, needed to run network setup for
eth0,using external speakers so ran alsamixer to set sound levels.

It's working well.

UCF2FS Pup – Released January 2015 -Popcorn Time

#13 Post by ETP »

Hi Billtoo,

Thanks for testing this Pup. Your dual monitor setup seems to suit it.
The only problem so far is after adding an application from PPM the
panel disappears, need to restart X to get it back.
There are three possible suspects for that. In his original post on unicorn Pup upon which this is based, 666philb warned that installing udev & xkb-data could break things.

More likely though is an issue with radky’s FbBox-1.0. that was originally issued on 3rd April 2014. The following post in that thread dated 11th January 2015 is the only similar report that I can find:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 413#820413
Radky is currently working on FbBox-2.0 but when released recommends a new installation rather than adding to an existing FbBox-1.0 environment.

Finally I might have messed something up but I know not what!

I want to keep UCF2FS Pup on my mac mini so I made a new one for my
ThinkCentre desktop.
With the applications that come with it + xine, kdegames, others from PPM,
+ some pets smplayer, smtube (pets by scabz),this is one great pup :)

Thanks very much.

Hi ETP and Billtoo,

UCF2FS is based on 666philb's original release of Unicorn-6.0 which has a developmental version of petget with numerous bugs (now fixed in Woof CE).

One of the Unicorn-6.0 petget bugs is incompatibilty with fbpanel and lxpanel when fixmenus is called after installing a package through PPM.

To 'fix' the fixmenus bug in UCF2FS, go to /usr/local/petget/installpreview.sh (line 478 of that version) and change:

Code: Select all

 /usr/sbin/fixmenus
to

Code: Select all

 nohup /usr/sbin/fixmenus
Thanks

PS - After some delay, FbBox-2.0 is in final beta testing. :)

Hi Roger,

I made the change and it solved the disappearing panel when installing from PPM, later on I uninstalled a package in PPM and the panel disappeared again but restarting X brought it back.

EDIT: Changing line 343 in /usr/local/petget/removepreview.sh in the same way as above fixed the disappearing panel when uninstalling a package in PPM.

Hi radky,

Thanks for your fixes. I would never have found that one!
Thanks also to Billtoo for validating both fixes. I will issue a service pack dotpet containing both corrections.
Good luck with FbBox-2.0.

Edit:
Please see fourth item in the second post of this thread for service pack.

I've gotten a situation on my desktop where the Chrome browser has disappeared from running on the desktop. And now, I am getting an Openbox errorbox stating "Failed to execute child process 'program-name' (No such file or directory).

This is after I have modified the target USB stick that is different from the USB stick that the UCF2FS system is running on.

GParted was executed ONLY on the stick that is to be used for a ChromeCastPUP and NOT on the stick that has UCF2FS. Gparted was run from the terminal.

Code: Select all

# gparted /dev/sdd
Question

Can someone verify that this occurs when they are using 2 USBs, one of which is the one the system booted from?

Hi gc,

I guess that you have left the system in stasis or shutdown without
saving in order to recover the situation.
# gparted /dev/sdd
It is not clear why you ran gparted from a terminal but that is not the command
to do so. Both menu entries and the .desktop file point to gparted_shell which is
a custom wrapper within Puppy. That in turn points at gparted which itself is a wrapper
that then calls the binary. (gpartedbin)

Launching gparted would circumvent the Puppy shell script with unpredictable results.
