BashPodder GUI (puppified version) - Podcatcher reduced to the max
customized and packaged by doopdoop

This software grabs your favourite podcast shows with only 4k of shell scripts.
This package includes BashPodder and BashPodder GUI (http://linc.homeunix.org:8080/scripts/bashpodder/), extended and adapted to fit to Puppy Linux.

Changes to the original version:
- Easier configuration of destination directory
- Menu entries for IceWM, fvwm95 and jwm (in submenu "Network")
- Progress bar feedback while downloading
- replaced lynx dependency with wget
- removed Crontab edit entry in menu (no puppy support yet)

For more information on podcasts, see e.g. http://www.ipodder.org , .http://www.podcastalley.com/ or http://www.podshow.com
Some of the more popular shows are already configured (Be careful, A LOT to dowload if you start it the first time, so maybe deselect some)

Ah now this is fun . . .
Pawed casting . . .
This seems to have a lot of potential . . .

I have just got it to work (after 11% of downloading I thought - ENOUGH) so will delete some of the many entries as you suggest.. Perhaps we can ADD podcasts rather than delete them - Embarassed oops more coding . . .

. . . many thanks for creating. Is there any advantage to putting in so many initial podcasts? Also when you are offered the chance to delete - some Puppys might delete required files - so maybe a sub directory?

Another tip I missed (yes you do explain Smile - when you refresh your window manager - you have put it under networking (on the menus) - should it go in multi-media?

Anyway I hope my comments are seen as encouragement for a great program - which I am pleased to get working . . . some of the downloaded files (they go into a dated folder in my-documents) . . . are "rude" but VERY funny and entertaining

Are you gonna do a "Radio Puppy" Pawed cast?

just found the bashpodder.conf which can be edited in a text editor to decide where files are stored . . .

I need some comedy pod casts - any recommends?
My tastes are Python (as in Monty and programming language) Nasrudin (the mad Mullah) Ali-G (and friends) and Napolean Dynamite

Woof woof!

Wow, there's sure a lot of stuff happening on the Internet!
Up until now podcasting was just a name that I came across once or twice, never knew what it was.

It is not specifical to iPod, and this often seems to confuse people. iPod is just seen as a name for the whole group of portable media players- and Podcasting sounds similar to Broadcasting, and Adam Curry is called the "Podfather". The basic technique is standardized and open (RSS Feeds with <enclosure>-Tags).
Actually, iTunes, the offical Apple software, has Podcast support only since the last release.
For starters I would try "Daily Source Code" - great music and commentary from former MTV-host Adam Curry.
I have also subscribed to some German Podcasts (Ö3-Comedy-Podcast, Deutschlandradio, SWR3-Thema des Tages, Schlaflos in München) and BBC's"In our time", a feature series on the history of ideas, which will return end of September.

Tut! tut! Lobster you haven't been looking at "Naughty things" Twisted Evil

Are you not the moral conscience of Puppy keeping all we Puppys on the straight and narrow..............

I understand "Naughty things" are now called "Podnography" Rolling Eyes

They teasing me again them boys . . .

There is swearing and some vulgarity in the pods. It is just a warning for those who require that. If people enjoy this or pornography or playing violent games what business is that of mine?

As a heretical Buddhist (there are no heresies in Buddhism - just unskillful actions) I believe in making ones own mind up.

In fact making a mind is my only chance of having one . . .

Cool

does anyone know why when I select View/Launch in BashPodder GUI the default directory is not what is specified in bashpodder.conf (/root/my-documents)? What comes up is /root/my-applications/bashpodder (last active directory?). Just annoying that I have to navigate back every time. Thanks!

p.s. when I looked in bpgui.sh I see a line "cd $(dirname $0)". What does that do? Where is "dirname" variable set?
