Can I install puppy on a pc without cd-rom ?

#1 Post by zuttel »

Hello,

I have an old laptop without a cd-rom. Is it possible to install puppy on it, for example via TFTP or FTP ?

Regards,

Alexander

Hi zuttel; What OS does it have on it now? It could be used to set Puppy up.
If the PC can't download Puppy, you'll have to get a friend to do it for you.

DOS can mount image files like the ISO files that Puppy comes in.
Also... MU had nonISO downloads of some Puppy versions, which I don't know.

What version of Puppy do you want? And... how did you intend to boot Puppy?
If the HD is FAT32 you could use DOS to boot (I do)... there's a DOS Puppy.

If you can transfer files onto it (via USB flash drive or similar) then perhaps try this method:

if your computer has a usb port but the bios does not support booting from the usb port u might need to make a boot disk that recognizes the usb port durning startup. i think if u do a google for "duse diskette" or "dos usb boot disk" you might be able to find something useful. in theory you should be able to boot from a usb cdrom or maybe even a usb thumb drive. i havent taken enough time to try to see if i could get it to work. i did download an iso that burns a cd that will boot a usb thumb drive for running slax on one of my old pcs that didnt have an option to boot from usb. hope this helps
