Carolina puppet

#1 Post by buckaroo50 »

I have been messing with linux for years (before GUI's) and came across Puppy some time back and migrated to Saluki for a look see and then Carolina Linux - I have remastered it and want some feedback as to what you think...

You can down load it from the following link...

4-15-2016
Greyhound-008 (kernel 3.18.30) and save to folder or file feature...
http://home.myfairpoint.net/buckaroo39/Greyhound/

Greyhound-007 (kernel 3.2.13)
http://home.myfairpoint.net/buckaroo39/iso/

Any feedback is welcomed... thanks.

Downloading...

Nice wallpaper that of 'Linux Bad Boys', it made me remember that I used it years ago in the lovely Dyne:Bolic distro.

PS: Ally, confess, you are a cyborg, aren't you? :)

Brave? Nah. It's just that it's the only one that both (a) looks good and (b) I can work without swearing at.

they will say that i wake up obsolete puppies,

#11 Post by Pelo »

april 2016, my god, they will say that i wake up obsolete puppies, at the production line. I intend to get Saluki return at the top, as other pupppies manufactured for people usage, not for training linuxing students needing users as laboratory mice.
Nice Puppies must have the first page, even if they are not born yesterday. That will help a lot people to choose.. a good one.
Jump to 1500 visits to 193.000, carolina will do it !
i need MTpaint. GIMP is for working edition, Mtpaint is a daily tool.
Audacious is here, lazpaint, it's a serious Puppy.
Cinelerra is for really professionnal movie makers, in Hollywood. None of puppy passengers can edit with it :) Avidemux is useful, for people using they computer for video edition.
Firefox 26 is enough, but can be updated if needed. Java version 8 included
My goal is not to know what carolina Puppet is made of, but what it offers to passengers. MTpaint added.

Saluki's kernel dates back to the modified Wary kernel jemimah created for Puppeee.

It's too old to cope with modern goodness.

It's old enough that it has electronic cobwebs. As the Beatles said: let it be!

Pelo

kernel is perfect for my computer. newer will not do better.

#13 Post by Pelo »

kernel 3.18.30 is perfect for my computer. newer will not do better. Applications are many, ready for use. I use very old kernels from the past, my only absolute need is to get connected wireless, then my Puppy is ready for start, with some puppies 'i can't get no satisfaction' starhawk, because always the same daily menu is offered to french gourmets.
Modern goodness : Alexandra and SSR are the only two new apps i discovered last three years. Developers are gone . Smokey01 repository included in PPM offers lot of applications for people using their computer for amusement only, as atunes

What would be fine would be a new version of Saluki, carolina puppet is not far from it, however carolina is fat a little bit, but java is included. .

@pelo: Carolina Linux: Vanguard Edition is an updated Carolina. Carolina was an updated Saluki.

What is nice is that ISOs remain available

#15 Post by Pelo »

What is nice is that ISOs remain available, we can choose versions that fits our needs. Sure Saluki and Carolina are XFCE OS. I am not really fond of XFCE, but a Puppy XFCE must be specialzed XFCE, a QT Puppy must be Speciallzed Qt. As a chinese restaurant should offer chinese dishes in its Menu, not corned beef and US Hamburgers.
One of my favourite remains Saluki 013 for XFCE, and PolarQt 005 for QT. What about the kernel ? If a Puppy was running well three years ago, why to change the kernel ?
Be careful about updates...none of the applications in the carolina puppet menu is XFCE ... ! only the wallpaper.. Saluki was 130MB sized, with XFCE apps. New Puppy builders have a kit of apps they provide everywhere, not caring of the Pupppy type. Newbies have the same software served, slacko, tahrpup, Xfce, Qt, the menu does not change so that does not make any difference..

manage movies collections

#19 Post by Pelo »

Puppy Linux had a lot of juke-box for Music Lovers. Carolina offers its passengers to watch their movies and manage collection with Alexandra (Xenialpup) or Griffith, downloaded from Carolina PPM. Griffith is a media collection manager application. Adding items to the collection is as quick and easy as typing the film title and selecting a supported source. Griffith will then try to fetch all the related information from the Web.
Passengers will be less furious if Puppy stays on ground, Linux roots trying to get it taking off, repairing Frisbee in the electronics bulk (located just under the cockpit)rerwin had a solution for Frisbee ? Click the blue. Being translated to french first, because i don't understand what Rerwin means.
" I am about to make a "debug" version of frisbee to log what happens in these cases, so that I can add code to handle them." ok that is easily understood. Why Carolina greyhound has an old version :?:

Perhaps 007 will pupsave better

#20 Post by Pelo »

pupsave does not work. The captain has left . Perhaps 007 will pupsave better. Hello buckaroo, where are you ?
That is a chance that pendrives nowadays load a Puppy in 30 secondes. If we had to burn CDs, that will finished to cost a lot of money, and time.
Galbi is a passenger of that greyhound, that is a chance, we can trust americanos.. del sur.
Ally has 3500 puppies in his store, madre, i don't believe they are so many !
No need to create new ones at the production line Woof CE.
007 downloading... old stuf, old stuff ! Puppies de Papa.

Linux : i just changed the adrv, and i have a new Puppy. a PM to Galbi to get him join carolina, because i fell alone on this deck, without a captain
(Mistfire, on Slim X-Slacko discuss a lot with his passengers)
