Hi, people.

Want to go for a walk on the Ottawa River ? :)

This is Slacko-6.0b dressed up with pekwm window manager (v. 1.15) , the
bmpanel & its tray at the bottom, the ROX panel at the top, the ascpu monitor,
the pekwm menu, and the wxbasic Analog Clock from MU.

Setting this up took me a lot of work and time, but it's my best Puppy
experience yet! 8) pekwm on Puppy rocks! :lol:

BFN.

Any bookmarkss, software installs, home page settings, emails, all get saved in that save file you made and saved in XP.
I boot CD or HDD frugal based (grub4dos) to ram with no savefile. I've changed remaster to not use any compression - and its really quick (less than a minute) to remaster. Have a desktop I like so no need for any changes (remastering) that often. Basic puppy, notes, calc, mplayer, CD/DVD etc. around 75MB in size - boots in seconds. The rest I load as required using RoxApps/Portable Apps, which can be stored on any file system (VFAT, NTFS, EXT2/3/4 etc) and that preserve any configuration changes i.e. firefox portable remembers bookmarks etc across reboots. For Email I use a online service. I store documents, images, spreadsheets etc outside of puppy (on the VFAT/NTFS/ext2/3/3 partitions) so that they're also preserved across reboots.

Here's a couple of RoxApp links : one for Libre and another for Firefox

I've recently added a PXE server to my personal list of apps, so my ol' single core 1.5GB RAM, Athlon 64 can serve up puppy to other household PC's i.e. anything that can netboot (and most network cards support netbooting). For my son's latest Windows boxes that means turning the default secure boot option off and then pressing escape (or F2) during startup, selecting the network boot option and Puppy loads on their PC - all running in RAM. Shutdown and reboot and they're back into normal Windows.

Running in ram and Puppy really flies (I insert puppy sfs into initrd as part of the remaster process so just vmlinuz and initrd.gz needed to boot and initrd doesn't have to search for puppy sfs as its already loaded into memory as part of loading initrd).

Hi rufwoof, I'm really liking the sound of what you've done with your cutdown 533, specially now you've added the pxe thing - do you have a specific thread for this? I'm keen to download a trial iso if poss...

Tahrpup 6.01.....fully customized.

Pwidgets 2.5.6 (thanks, zigbert!). Backdrop by Googling for 'denim wallpaper'...(!) Icons, my own custom library, also culled from Google over half-a-dozen sessions.

Screen logo, courtesy of 'PhotoScape 3.65', running under Wine from the 'quickpet' repo.

Hello !

This is aewm revisited; running on Puppy slacko-6.0b. This is what you can get when
you mix a supposedly old window manager with a new approach.

From top to bottom:
  • * aewm++ appbar
    * trayer
    * "dynamic" aemenu (separate from the apps menu) displaying current date and
    time, the RAM available, and the desktop number; plus access to various utilities.
    Also, the aemenu structure allows it to be easily edited almost on the fly.
    * cdda-player playing a CD in its own transparent window
    * two "pills" whose role is to control the display of a sequence of panels (ROX panels
    and others; not activated in this picture).
Always recycle, never trash, a good wm! :D

BFN.

Again, aewm revisited; this time in less aesthetic, more functional garb. :)
