In my tests, X-slacko-2.2n automatically loads the Broadcom wl.ko WiFi driver on machines with non-Broadcom devices.

This also occurs in other Puppies that have recent versions of wl.

This must also happen in slacko as well then. Is there a fix for this?

Edit: Booted into RAM with Ralink USB wireless
X-slacko-2.2 loaded rt2800usb module
X-slacko-2.2n same, seems to be working properly

There is a simple explanation for this and a solution. I have discussed it with peebee.

Are you saying that wl was NOT loaded or that your WiFi worked in spite of it being loaded?

The problem may be specific to internal PCI adapters. I will do some more testing.

Fix 1 is to blacklist wl if loaded erroneously

Fix 2 is to add the preferred driver to the last line of /etc/rc.d/MODULESCONFIG

Fix 3 is in the future:
rerwin by pm wrote:I am mulling over a workaround with udev rules to manage blacklisting of wl. .... With the driver defaulted to being blacklisted, the rules could unblacklist it if a supported device is encountered during bootup.

Fix 4. Treat this proprietary driver like other Linuxes do. Remove it from the distro. Only install it if you need it - if the open-source b43 driver fails. This eliminates the need for additional workarounds that might have other side effects.

I added some applications and then remastered the live cd, booted it up
on my imac, and setup everything.

It's working great, thanks for this.

EDIT: I added wine and have xbmc 12.3 running under it, works okay for music but hard work for video on this pc.

Update for 2.2N:
I tried it in XP2400+ with a GeF Pro card and got the 'barcode' screen, then the notorious Microstar8807 card which gave blank screen. Neither responded to CTRL-ALT-BKSPCE. Didn't have time to play with cheat codes and don't possess any Intel cards.
It is possible to slow down the Pacman diversion by unplugging some mem. or slowing the cpu in BIOS.
I seem to remember it was Terryphi who reported the universality of FP v.10 for guaranteed operation across the spectrum. v.10 has not let me down for BBC iPlayer since then on a variety of HW. Anyone interested may be able to Search his original recommendations and, more recently, my own reminder of his work that led to inclusion of the v.10 as an option in PPM for users of iPlayer.

I have been having too much trouble uploading files to carolina-linux.com so I will be slowly moving everything to smokey01.com

I'd like to thank elroy for giving me space to host X-precise and X-slacko and smokey01 for giving me space for future hosting.

So far all the X-precise ISO's have been copied there and X-slacko-2.2/2.2n, thanks again to smokey01 for copying the X-p stuff over.

Firefox can't auto update so I downloaded firefox-33.0.tar.bz2 and unpacked it in /root/spot/Downloads, then after deleting everything in /usr/lib/firefox I copied everything in the firefox-33.0 directory to /usr/lib/firefox.
All the bookmarks and history are still there + firefox still runs as user spot.
Anyhow, it worked for me.

That must be the reason it didn't work for me, I tried on two installs of my remastered iso.

EDIT: I couldn't find my original X-Slacko-2.2 dvd which is lost in the pile or the original iso so I redownloaded the original iso and burned it to a dvd.

Firefox <did> update on the original but won't on the remaster (actually a remaster of the first remaster).

When I tried to update on my remaster it just said updates were available and there was a link to download an archive of the new version.

The only thing I can think of is to check whether the updater binary and the 2 update ini files got copied to /usr/lib/firefox

X-slacko-3.0?

I have xfce-4.10.1 running on slacko-5.9.3 quite nicely. I left jwm in and can switch between window managers with each using it's default file manager. This is more of a practice for slacko-6 and to see if I could get both WM's working without conflict, so far so good. I'm going to also try it with xfce-4.11 but xfdesktop has a few small bugs.

How about doing X-Fatdog64-7.0?

I'm able to compile xfce4-4.10 on Fatdog64 but unable to integrate it into fatdog properly since I don't know how to write the scripts that would be required (or whatever it would require).

It might be popular.
