Not quite sure what you mean but the source and patches were downloaded from gnu.org and compiled in X-slacko with:

Code: Select all

./configure --with-curses prefix=/

I've been compiling a lot of slacko apps for slacko 6, starting on http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... &start=630, They should work on this slacko also. Just a heads up :)

Very minor issue: the screensaver cut in very quickly whilst waiting for the initial settings panel to wind itself up. Found the Flashplayer OK in PPM - would be nice if it were pre-loaded?

Right click on Desktop > Screen Saver Settings, time defaults to 15 min.

Flashplayer is installed in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, it's working here.

Edit: Booted into RAM and both issue checkout, maybe check your ISO md5sum

More info: Confirmed d/l OK as you suggested. Also collected more details on previous strange effects. [Radeon 9200, in case it's relevant?]
After completing the Quick Set and ticking Firewall and timezone boxes, a Pacman-style (screen saver?) pops up before the Firewall panel appears. This is reproducible.
I checked out the FlashPlayer situation. With the pre-loaded files, FF stalls at first ask for bbc.co.uk iPlayer items, offering to send failure report (the usual FF form). At second ask, FF opens but the the iPlayer page remains blank inside the FF frame. This happens with a number of Puppies and has been discussed previously. Load the v.10 FlashPlayer from the PPM and everything is sweetness and light. Blame the Beeb, but it can be an unnecessary hurdle for Brits not used to grappling with it. Some FP v.11 s also work, but it's a waste of time running through them all until one works when it's known that a v.10 always works, thanks to previous investigations of another Forum correspondent. It may be that other video cards work with the native FP, but don't have time right now to carry out loadsa card swaps.

@ Sage

I booted into RAM 3 times and can't reproduce the screen saver problem. It uses xautolock as a timer, something must be screwing with it. If you make a save file does it work properly after that?

As far as flash goes, I can't view BBC iplayer clips as I'm not in UK. If v10 works then stay with it. If I do another version of X-slacko I'll think about downgrading to v10 or maybe removing it and using flash down loader.

Downloading now. I'll strip my 2.1 savefile down and have a go. Don't know if the 'n' suffix on non-pae isos is your idea or not but it is much appreciated here and I'd love to see it used on all pup derivs.

Thanks,
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

Thanks,
Hey Marv

I decided to use "n" because typing "non-pae" took too long :wink:

At one time I had added it to the sfs name (puppy_xslacko_2.2n.sfs) but had to edit init in initrd.gz. Not a big deal, maybe I'll look into that again.

Edit: Not hard at all
- change sfs name to puppy_xslacko_2.2n
- edit init in initrd.gz line 207 from [ "`echo "$PUPXXXSFS" | grep '[0-9]\.sfs'`" != "" ] && NAMETYPE='traditional'
to [ "`echo "$PUPXXXSFS" | grep '[0-9][a-z]\.sfs'`" != "" ] && NAMETYPE='traditional'
- edit DISTRO_SPECS in initrd.gz from 2.2 to 2.2n for all instances and /etc/DISTRO_SPECS in main sfs.
- savefile name remains the same though

It's probably easier to just change the distro name to x-slacko-n but I like 2.2n better

Quick update: N runs faster but exhibits same idiosyncrasies.
Guessing, you may be using something a lot faster than my XP2400+ testbed, in which case the Pacman manifestation, briefer on N, may elude you?

I'm using an MSI G41M-P26 (MS-7592) with a Pentium Dual-Core E5700 @ 3.00GHz and 4GB RAM. I do still have my Abit NF7-S with an XP2500+ in it's original box :D , if I feel energetic I'll assemble it and do a few tests.

Geoffrey told me earlier that Carolina sometimes does that as well although I've never seen it in either distro.

2.2n is good. Now running 2.2n on the fujitsu 6230 Pentium M ipw2200 laptop. Updated cleaned 2.1 savefile perfectly, no hitches no glitches. Added in evince 2.32 from here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 621#798919 and so far it seems to run fine (I added the extra libs into the pet to install..still not too big and I like evince).
I've gotten quite addicted to PWF with a static IP so no frisbee/bash check here. Sorry.

I can confirm that frisbee with bash-4.3.29 is working, posting using Ralink USB wireless and rt2800usb module.
