Note 1: 700 beta1 is a bit bigger than alpha1 because it comes with Firefox and Seamonkey *combined*. The default browser is set to Firefox, *however*, do not uninstall Seamonkey even if you don't use it because in this release Seamonkey and Firefox uses the same libraries (in other words - if you uninstall Seamonkey, Firefox will stop working). This is similar to 631.
Note 2: Please checkout the updated FAQs.

Just a quick live test of Beta 1. Best resolution I can achieve is 1024x768 instead of the desired 1980x1020 .....but it did boot to a desktop at least.
Tried both blacklisting nouveau and not....... same result.
From the latest Tahr....
Will try on a bit older hardware a bit later.

I know there is along thread about recent skype issues but I'm too lazy I guess
Talking about lazy , what is the magic to remove the floppy desktop icon?

I am not complaining though....
Downloading now.
Thanks.

Radeon RS880G UVD/VDPAU
Hello jamesbond
I did say that I hadn't done it before... Why is there so much misinformation out there when the right answer is so simple:
Having sorted that, there's good news and bad news.
The bad news: mesa/VDPAU is broken in fd700b1 but working in fd700a1 and fd630
from fd700b1:
It's trying to load the VDPAU wrapper to VAAPI which doesn't work, even if I install the package, because there is no VAAPI decoder.
with fd700a1 and fd630
This is finding the old shader based VDPAU decoder that Christian König wrote years ago. But at least mesa/vdpau is working.
----
THE GOOD NEWS!
radeon/uvd is working with my RS880G at least as far as the kernel/drm.
One step at a time!

I thought that stuff was removed before beta1 got out. Oh well. We're going to remove libva and some other associated stuff. If you look at /etc/profile and find:# vdpauinfo
display: :0 screen: 0

export VDPAU_DRIVER=va_gl
You'll want to change va_gl to what ever your chipset uses, maybe r600. Look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log and search for vdpau to find what exactly to put there. You might have to use the proprietary driver along with xvba-driver to make that work. Really don't think it's worth it.

I installed B1 over A1 and all of my setting were remembered from the save file on my ThinkPad X61.
Not sure if installing over A1s is recommend but it is a really nice feature to not have to restore my settings and personal files (they were backed up prior to the upgrade)
Glad to have FireFox.
Thank you

There is no config, you will need to hack one of the innards. Since you're running this in a VM, I'm wondering isn't there away to stop emulating the floppy?Talking about lazy , what is the magic to remove the floppy desktop icon?
Anyway, the innards is here: /usr/sbin/fatdog-drive-icon-udev-handler.sh line 97 - change "PROCEED=yes" to "PROCEED=".

hello kirk
All the expected decoders are listed.
The last reasonably working XVBA on DX10 gpus was Catalyst 12.6. Pemasu did patch that to work with his 3.7.2 kernel, but there is no chance it would work with current kernels.
I notice glamor is enabled, but not by your glamor.conf. I guess Alex Deucher must have changed the defaults.
I need to investigate. The last time I tried glamor, it was much too slow for video playback and I had to change back to EXA.
EDIT: I was wrong, it is still using EXA
EDIT2
I have verified that VDPAU is all joined up by enabling VDPAU in VLC.
If I play a 720p50 H.264 video it produces a suitably garbled output with the picture wrapped twice vertically.
These gpus only do frame based output and not field based. That's what the mesa patches are about.
Thanks for the clue. It was only necessary to comment out the line and now it's "working".kirk wrote:If you look at /etc/profile and find:

I added dosbox with the gslapt package manager, it doesn't add a menu entry or a desktop file.
I edited another desktop file and saved it as dosbox.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=dosbox
Icon=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/dosbox16.png
Comment=dosbox
Exec=dosbox
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=Game
GenericName=dosbox
I found an icon on the web and resized it.
Here it is if you can use it.
EDIT: It works in xfce4 too
EDIT2: I have xfce4 working well now (as well as I know how to make it
at least).
I started it with "xwin xfce4-session" and it gives a couple error
windows about keybindings which disappear when clicked on, razor panel
is still active so I moved it and set it to autohide.
I use razor panel to reboot or shutdown and next bootup it goes to the
desktop, displays the keybinding errors once again.
Anyway, I'm enjoying beta1 so thanks to you and kirk.

Hello jamesbond & kirk
You might consider disabling backing store by default.
It was disabled by xorg anyway prior to fatdog 630
On my hardware, with vblank_mode=0 glxgears does:
424 with backing store enabled
1185 with backing store disabled.
I know glxgears is not a real application, but that's surely not good.

Fatdog64-700 Network connection issues
I have successfully setup wlan connection via the version works) - the GUI in the system tray, however, does not work.
Although it shows the working connection after I have had activated my wlan profile via the control panels's network manager.
Connecting via command line wpa_supplicant works as well.
I would like to have the connection initiated automatically when booting-up. Any suggestion? Is this a known glitch? Where are the autostart scripts to be put, so that I can place the command line wpa2 script there?

I downloaded the 700 Beta 1 iso and did a manual installation to my EFI hard disk. Fatdog 64 700 Beta 1 booted without a problem. The Ethernet connection was properly detected and setup. Since, I do not use Wifi, I used a small bash file in the Startup directory to turn Wifi off.
I have tried several squashed file system add-on programs. The only one witha problem is Wine. The Iexplore program fails with a major fault and resulting memory dump. I will try a few other Wine items to see if the problem is limited to only Iexplore. Hopefully, a sfs add-on will be available for Libre-Office.
The other item was Peasy-Print. pet did not install at all. I hope it does get converted to the new package format for the package manager.
Here is the hardware description of the test system:
