We got two of these refurbished HP Pavilion g7's to use as desktop pc replacements & they have worked well - and were cheap.

They are 64 bit so they may not meet your need.

I need a new machine and it's coming up to fathers day so I'm dropping hints for this http://aldi.medion.com/md8239/au/?refPage=medion

Comes with win8, but that can go and I'll buy a win7, I have no idea as to whether puppy will play ball with the ati video, on even boot on it.

"AMD A8-7600 accelerated quad-core processor With 3.10 GHz, up to 3.80 GHz with AMD turbo-core technology and a 4 MB Cache with AMD Radeon™ R7 graphics

Anyone have thoughts on this as a replacement PC?

I've patched skype version 4.2.0.13 so that it appears as 4.3.0.37, it now logs in, please test.

skype-4.2.0.13-lina-patched.pet 8.4M without QT suitable for Carolina.

skype-4.2.0.13-lina-patched.sfs 26M with QT suitable for Carolite.

I now have a new pc, Carolina doesn't find the wireless or the eth0, I'll continue to use the Lenovo Thinkcentre I have, it's a single core 2ghz with 2gigs of ram, should be good enough to compile with.

Looks like a feature-rich CPU and system. Should handle all of your 2014 and beyond needs as you envision.

BTW what kinds of monitor(s) will it connect? HDMI? TV?

Cheers!

It seems to be a nice machine, has VGA and HDMI out, but I can't dual boot with Puppy, I have to disable UEIF and enable Legacy in the bios and Carolina doesn't have the drivers for the Eth0 or Wlan, that's the price one pays for having the latest technology I guess.

Hi Geoffrey,

If you can find the time could you please create a pet or sfs of XBMC 12 ? There are lots of channels which do not work properly in 11. Currently I am using the xfce version of Linux Mint Qiana for thet reason (it is the closest OS to Carolina so far) but it is still 2nd choice. I like the portability of Carolina way better.

So far nobody on the forum has been able to create a carolna installable XBMC 12

Skype

#1417 Post by Geoffrey »

Added skype-4.3.0.37-apulse-lina.pet and skype-4.3.0.37-apulse-lina.sfs to repo.

This uses apulse which adds PulseAudio emulation for ALSA, it seems to work ok out of the box, please test,
the sfs version contains the QT library files, the pet doesn't, Carolina has QT by default so use the pet package in the PPM, if using Carolite with no QT use the sfs version.

Apps such as inxi, "inxi is a fork of infobash 3.02, the bash sys info script by locsmif", this needs a recent bash version to function correctly, the default bash in Carolina is to old.

@battleshooter,

I think this will need some testing to be sure that bash works ok, I've compiled version 3.0.18 the original version with the fix to full back on if 4.3.26-1 breaks anything, in the mean time I rebuilt the puppy_lina_1.2.sfs with the new bash so I can make sure things like the save file still work, it's been reported elsewhere that frisbee is broken, not having a wireless device that works in Carolina makes it hard to test some things, so if anyone can test it would be appreciated.

Edit: the patch does break Frisbee, even with version 3.0.18 gives

Code: Select all

error importing function definition for
just about everything
