Solitaire

#1 Post by LeithR »

A couple of years ago there was an excellent Solidaire .pet program discussed on the forum. I downloaded a copy and happily played it until recently when my Laptop suffered a catastrophic failure including the HD. Since I got back on line a couple of weeks ago I have been searching the forum for this .pet without success. It has features like a facility to undo a move and many user selectable playing features.

Does anybody know this game please? If so can you point me to where I can renew my acquaintance.

Many thanks

Jasper

Hi,

It's solitaire (with a t - as in your heading) and the Forum search works, but post back if that doesn't find what you want.

My regards

I have a PET file called sol-1.0.7-i386.pet that is in my collection.
I do not know if that is the one you lost The link to it on the forum is here.
Maybe it is the one you are trying to find.

Thanks for the correction Jasper, simple typo sorry for that. I have used search on the forum which is pretty poor in comparison to Google advanced search facility which I also used. Still not found what I'm looking for.

@ 8-bit,
Thanks, have downloaded a copy of Sol, its not the one I was thinking of but it will do for now. Thanks

@ Ted dog,
Thanks for your response, I already had a copy of this game.

At one extreme you can install PySolFC, which has over a 1000 solitaire variants, but needs python & tcl/tk installed, or try tiny seahaven.

Hi there Muggins,
Thanks for your input, since my last post I've done a little more research and found the name of the Solitaire I'm looking for is AisleRiot Solitaire Klondike. I've done a search for it and found some references to it but no compatible download.
I seem to recall when I downloaded it last I didn't have to download any other dependencies so I have been assuming it was packaged as a .pet.

Leith -

My favorite basic game .pet - which includes AisleRiot and seems to run fine on numerous different Puppies - is this one; http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... 486-uj.pet

IIRC, it includes the also excellent-but-hard-to-find Blackjack.

Hey Moat,
Do I need anything more/dependencies? I've loaded up NOME-Games but they are not running, it feels as if I'm missing something because the other games are working.

Yes, possibly - depending on which Puppy you're running (??). You could try opening AisleRiot via terminal by typing either "sol" or "/usr/games/sol", then "Enter". The terminal should then display any missing dependencies and/or other issues.

I have found that the various AisleRiot/gnome-games .pet's gleaned from the forum can be a bit "finicky" as to which Pups they'll run properly on - the one I linked to above is the one I've had the best luck with, for some reason.

IIRC, the issue was bigger than just missing dependencies... like needing an older glibc, or something... :? Excellent package of basic games, but maybe a bit old and not so well supported/updated to run on newer systems.

Maybe you could try uninstalling the gnome-games pet, and instead try the lucid aisleriot pet here:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... -Lucid.pet

Other options could be trying some of the many chrome browser patience packages:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/cate ... board-card

or perhaps:
