Wireless has suddenly stopped!

#1 Post by redandwhitestripes »

Quick problem:

Precise Puppy. Full install.

My connection suddenly stopped working just after I installed and got the new skype and pulseaudio working. (But no mic capture). The connection wizard can see my network but

The message I’m getting is:
Failed to connect to wpa_supplicant - wpa_ctrl_open: No such file or directory

Is there a quick fix?

More detail:

I tried reinstalling dhcp 5.2.9 pet, no joy.

Running from my frugal install off the same system, I tried an "upgrade" of the full install from the puppy installation manager. This reset the wireless modules from the loading list in "connection wizard" but after tinkering, the same problem emerged.

I am now using the frugal install from the same system so I know it is not a hardware fault. (The reason I don’t use this all the time is because the cd drive is slowly dying). And both installs use the same module (b43).

All help most welcome. I don’t know how many times the cd drive will continue to boot so this is a big concern.

Can we assume that you are using frisbee? Hopefully a frisbee maintainer will come by and make some suggestions.

If not, I would recommend PWF. You will need a clean Puppy install before using it.

Please provide some feedback.

Yes indeed, I was using frisbee. Since the problem started I've tried all the network wizards to no avail.

I noticed someone else had an identical problem here:

...without a resolution

Clearly wpa_supplicant is being called but I can't see why it has suddenly started missing its target file.

Thank you both for your replies and links. Truth be told, I panicked and reinstalled from scratch before I read your link, aardvark. However, should this problem repeat itself (I do intend to try skype again) then I will use the suggestion in your link.

Thanks again!
