Hi everyone!
I'm new in thise forum and in linux too.
I've booted linux puppy 4.30 on an old computer that was abandoned in my house just to learn how to work with Puppy... I'm just curious Smile
I don't understand so much concerning computer, so forgive me if i forget some essential things.
The question is: how can I run a Belkin F7D4101 v1 on it?
Can u suggest me any driver or something?
Thank you very much!!

I am too busy right now to troubleshoot this.

Looks like a Broadcom wireless usb chipset.

Hi...

Welcome to the forums Smile

From what I'm seeing here and here (choosing "Belkin" and "Broadcom" in the menus,) your adapter may or may not be supported. I would need to see the ID number (not FCC, although that would probably help, too,) of the device. Please open a terminal (go to "Utility" then "Urxvt Terminal Emulator,") and type in...

Code:
lsusb

and post the results for your adapter. Also, please also give us the results from...

Code:
uname -r

Thanks! Smile

Thank u and sorry for my unclear message.
Well, let's start again:

the computer have been assembled by a friend of my phater,
RAM 500 mb
CPU speed 1.2 GHz.
I hope that's enough because it's all i know about pc specs... Otherwise I'm going to open it and write down the names of each component!

Puppy version: 4.30.

How Puppy has been installed: live cd. Now it's on a flash usb.
I didn't use any specific program to install Puppy, I just formatted the computer and put the cd into it.

My problem: I want surf the internet using a usb Belkin F7D4101 v1 but when i connect it to the computer nothing happens.

Ardvark: I tried to type in the terminal "lsusb". The answer is: command not find. To "uname -r" the answer is 2.6.30.5

It appears that your F7D4101 will only work by using the Windows driver. Do you have the install CD?

As cthisbear has suggested, this would be easier to set up with a newer Puppy like Lupu 528, and your machine should run it.

I concur, unless the the "1.2 GHz" processor is actually a Pentium 3 or AMD equivalent, instead of a 4, in which case, Lucid or anything above might run more sluggish. In any case, if you want to continue using Puppy 4.3, you can try using ndiswrapper (or see if a newer version can be found in PPM) and see if that works, as I believe rcrsn51 alluded to. If the manufacturer will allow it (read their EULA,) you will need to get the specific files from the Windows driver that your adapter needs.

To be able to give me the readout for "lsusb," please go here and install this .pet.

Thanks! Smile

I've tried to boot lupu 528 and it works, but i want to try with puppy 4.30 first.

So, I downloaded both ndiswrapper and the driver for my belkin F7D4101 v1. Then I put them on my computer, I installed ndiswrapper.

But I had some problems with the belkin driver.
When i had downloaded it i had had just one directory called F9L1101v1_N600. When i put it on the computer with puppy I had: three dir called CONFIG, RESTORE, SYSTEM and two other files called F9L1101v1_N600.exe and WMPInfo.xml. What do I have to do? Please help me!

Ndiswrapper packages are version-specific. Puppy 431 already has ndiswrapper so I'm pretty sure that 430 has it too.

At this point, your best procedure is to start with a clean copy of Lupu 528.

1. Install PeasyWifi. It has detailed instructions for using ndiswrapper.

2. Get the F7D4101 Windows driver from here.

3. Unpack the zip file to a temporary location.

4. Run the setup in PWF under the Win tab.

It's been 24 hours and you haven't shown the courtesy of a reply.

It's time to move on to other things.

I'm very sorry for the late reply rcrsn51, but I don't have a computer of my own at the moment...
I have followed your advice and booted lupu 528.
But

1) I don't understand what PeasyWiFi is and I can't find it on lupu, i don't know where to look for it...

2)I downloaded the windows driver from the link you posted but I can't figure out how to instal it on lupu, I'm sorry... I don't understand what you mean with: Unpack the zip file to a temporary location and run the setup in PWF under the Win tab. How can I unpack the file to a temporary location? and where is PWF?

Sorry for my ignorance..
I hope you'll reply again
