How to use Acer Aspire 5745G wireless?

#1 Post by nikodimos »

Hello!

I am a new user of Puppy and I have a problem with my wireless card. The problem is that puppy doesn't recognize the built-in wireless card.

I have a laptop acer aspire 5745G and I've installed and use Lucid Puppy 5.2.8

Please help.

what make and model is your wifi card?

open term and type 'lspci' it will list all devices on the motherboard pci bus. 'lsusb' is for devices on the pci>usb. If your hardware is Ralink wifi you probably only need some firmware for /lib/firmware/ like rt3290.bin

Hi nikodimos...

Welcome to the forums :)

Please see this thread, especially the sixth post.

To ensure that the kernel version is correct, just open a terminal and paste this command...

Code: Select all

uname -r

Hi...

Did you verify that you're using the version of Lucid mentioned on that post and have the correct kernel version? Also, would you open a terminal and post the results of...

Code: Select all

lspci -nn
for your network adapter?

If nothing else works, there is also this option, although I don't know if it will work for Lucid.

Later driver required

You need the latest driver (6.30.223.248) for your particular wireless card. Unfortunately, new drivers are rarely made for old versions of Puppy. I got an Acer Aspire recently & page 8 of the link below contains Peebee's driver for Slacko 5.7, which works. Suggest you use Slacko 5.7 & install Peebee's .pet file.

** UPDATE **
I found compiling files for kernel 2.6.33.2 (Lupu 528.004) & have made a working driver. It is 6.2mb, so I can't post it here.

I never could connect with wireless using Lucid 528 on my Acer Aspire 7741Z-4643. I switched to the latest SuperLucid that uses the newer kernel which does work with wireless.

OK guys thank you very much for your help but I think that lucid puppy doesn't fit me enough and i should choose another distribution.
