You indicated that you copied the file. I need to ask, when you shutdown, did you save the session? And, when you rebooted I also ask; Did you check your library to see if the file you copied is there in the location you copied to?

Hope this helps
gcmartin,

Yes, I checked again. After reboot, the settings was saved properly and the file, rtl8192cfw.bin is still at /lib/firmware/

This time. using simple file sharing, the wlan button appeared.
But when I clicked on the wlan button, I immediately get a black screen with lines of wordings. (see attached)

Then, nothing else could get me back to terminal or the windows gui. I tried pressing ctrl+alt+backspace but nothing worked. Finally, I had to press and hold the power on/off button of my netbook to shutdown.

Ouch, that's a kernel panic. Puppy just left a stinky one on the carpet!

No it's a kernel "oops".

Seems like a bug in the rtl8192ce kernel module. I'm afraid not much can be done apart from using a different kernel. Or possibly ndiswrapper if you can locate a windows driver and blacklist rtl8192ce. May still need the firmware though.

bug in the rtl8192ce kernel module
Some of these Realtek devices regularly throw up non-detections (even detection without operation) and have been discussed in other threads over the last 2-3yrs+. Sometimes two devices show up instead of one causing confusion - BK knew how to fix that. Blacklisting may be required. One simple solution has been to alias them as a similar device. But which one?! Trial and error or consult one of the Forum experts who know about these things. Search.

You may already know that mtpaint does not run.

Error message in terminal:
mtpaint: error while loading shared libraries: libjasper.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I did, thanks. Marv caught some stuff which made me pull the ISO's. I'm working on new ones as we speak.

First look at 2.1n. Pristine frugal install to Pentium M Fujitsu S6230 laptop. Boot normal. Connection with Frisbee, sound, video resolution and driver all good. Pets install correctly. HPLIP, thunar 1.62, and Xpower used as tests. Latest version of Xpower working correctly wrt lid suspend and brightness (with my patch for this laptop). Other functions of Xpower not tested yet but should be ok. Mtpaint loads correctly.

More later, I'm going to muck about with kernel (and probably make a grand poof but it's on my watch :? )
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

Good to see it's working properly Marv and thanks for testing Xpower. I've removed the brightness part until I can figure out a way for it to work on most laptops.

See below to download for testing. The pinstall removes screener screen saver app as it's integrated into Xpower. Right click in any dir and click Power Settings or Control Panel > System > Xpower.

I will assume that's because it was written for the original puppy menu. Probably lots of dialogs like that.

Hello rg66,
I can't find the NLS files for the XFCE programs in Xslacko and Xprecise. Do you have the translation files, or could you please tell me which specific versions of the programs are in the ISO? (They seem to be mixed versions.)
I need them for the language packs.
