Built in Woof-CE - puppy_precise-ce_5.7.1.iso

#1 Post by stemsee »

I am working on Puppy-Linux-EmSee-2nd-Edition; here is the vanilla base I will use. This was built using Woof CE community edition. The kernel was compiled using kernel kit in woof-ce. Thanks to 01micko and his team.

This contains updates from ubuntu + kernel 3.13.9-EmSee-pae + ramdisk auto create/persist for audio work, ulimit -l unlimited.

Wheezy ISO

stemsee. An interesting concept. But please, more details. What has been updated, what has been replaced? Especially, how large is the ISO? There's little reason to download something unless it suitable for general use. So, what programs does this update contain? Thanks.

It weighs in at 369MB .iso, including devx. It resembles the slacko 5.7.1 build from 01micko, the kernel is 3.13.9-pae compiled with many new features enabled and lots of modules, my realtek usb dvb-t finally works in puppy. it has nearly all of the standard puppy apps, so it's heavier than need be. here is the list of compiled in stuff;

Google Drive says is 994MB! Is it?
Is there an md5sum since such a big file may fail to download correctly?

BTW Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr was just released.
Since you got a handle on woof-CE you may want to built this instead :wink:

Google Drive says is 994MB! Is it?
Is there an md5sum since such a big file may fail to download correctly?

BTW Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr was just released.
Since you got a handle on woof-CE you may want to built this instead :wink:
The iso contains the unsquashed contents of the sfs as well as the .sfs file itself.....
ImageLxPup = Puppy + LXDE
Main version used daily: LxPupSc; Assembler of UPups, ScPup & ScPup64, LxPup, LxPupSc & LxPupSc64

I uploaded a corrected iso for precise ... wheezy is ok. and the kernel sources are now shared too.

As for Trusty Tahr = Quirky6 built by Barry Kauler himself! If you install it to hd or usb, you need only recompile the kernel with aufs patches and put in the modules in both system and a precise initrd.gz then mksquashfs /mnt/sdb1 trusty-tahr.sfs and away you go - in theory!

Yes, I will attempt a woof CE trusty tahr buil sometime soon. with kernel 3.14.2-rt1-pae no less for all us kernel-version-number-junkies! Actually 3.13.* is faster than 3.14.* but some interesting developements in the new kernels, can't wait for 3.15.* oh wait - it's already here!! Watch this space.

Great work, stemsee! I'm very pleased to see new contributors like you, especially now when we need more working hands to replace Barry's.

We could merge your efforts into woof-CE, so anyone can build such a Puppy and further improve it. Why don't you join the woof-CE team in GitHub? :)

Thanks Iguleder

I will join git-hub - if I didn't already! I'm happy to share back my little acheivements.

I wondered if you know anything about installing xinput on puppy linux? I have seen it function correctly only on lighthouse64. I am not sure why in Hardinfo > Input all devices are listd correctly, but not from 'xinput list' in term. I need to use the create-master function and reattach a second mouse and keyboard to a second cursor, to create a pseudo multi-seat environment. I also need a script to limit the second master devices to a second screen WITHOUT nesting servers. Any help insight appreciated.

I am already a member at git-hub but i have never used it. How do I contribute? Is making a 'pull request' asking someone to pull my stuff in?

Okay I forked it and cloned it. I am Bronzatto

Yes. Join, fork the woof-CE repository, make changes in your fork, then issue a pull request.

After you configure git you can eitherinstall a certificate or tell git to ignore it

So I made a pull request in testing, offered ;

''Just adding to kernel kit 'configs_extras' 3 DOTconfig files for kernels 3.13.1, 3.13.9, 3.13.11, and build.conf added repo kernel_mirror="https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/" and commented out previous default, also updated kernel version to 3.13.11 which works great. 3.14.* kernels do not compile with aufs patches at the moment (I tried everything)!! But I have the dotconfigs ready with rt patches - good for full installs.''

I am not sure if I succeeded!?

I also discovered a bug in the build.sh script and and added code to convert linux_kernel diretory to a pet and move it to the packages-pet local repository reaedy for use in a woof-ce build.

Yesterday i compiled kernel-3.13.11 it is the end of line for 13 series so I made an extra effort to include absolutely every possible option as a module. I included kernel arguments for ramdisk_size and i8042.noloop, which my laptop nesds. This has got to be the mother of all kernels except that I should have compiled wine into it alla longene. I also compiled 3.14.1 this morning non pae, and it also seems to be fine compiled with aufs. Sources available on request..

Hello, stemsee.

I cannot get your Precise iso to download completely. I tried twice, and the download
recycles at 249 Mb. Is it just me? My opera 12.16 browser? The GoogleDocs site?

Edit: Some quirk in the file at the level of Mg 67 in the Precise sfs? (Please see pic.)
Or simply an incomplete upload?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, stemsee.

Don't worry about it! Impressive for a first build! :) And thanks for the upgrade/update.

Hello @StemSee

Just a note to share that a mouse-over the network icon DOES NOT show the local LAN IP address as 01Micko's Slacko57 does. Maybe when service is provided, this can be rectified.

Here to help
