Sub_title: ...does not work with PeasyScan -- "No Scanner Detected!"

I have a Canon FB630P parallel-only scanner (it's old; someone gave it to me for free).

I want to use it with PeasyScan 2.6 on X-Slacko 1.1. I am using a generic USB-to-Parallel adapter that *should* be working (I'm not 100% sure that it is) in order to connect it to my laptop, which is much too new for a parallel port.

I found this thread and followed the directions in muggins' post about 3/4 of the way through the thread. No joy.

What do I do?

Hmm, try downloading a firmware for you scanner and edit /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf

look for this line:
# Change to the fully qualified filename of your firmware file, if
# firmware upload is needed by the scanner
firmware /usr/share/sane/snapscan/u96v121.bin

I'm not sure where even to look for that -- can you point me to a place that might have it?

Hi starhawk - I tried searching for your firmware but unfortunately, Canon's Website didn't have it. They only had drivers for Windows 95 and Windows 98 but NO firmware. If you want to download the driver and look maybe they had the firmware bundled on the package, you can try.

Here is the link:

Go to /etc/sane.d and open the file dll.conf in a text editor. UNcomment the line "canon_pp".

However this driver wants to talk directly to a parallel port and you are connecting through a USB adapter. So I doubt if it will work.

Ah Smile I see the forum neglected to inform me of your arrival. That's not very nice, now is it?

That line *has* been uncommented, alas it was not enough.

Is there more I can do, or should I give up?

Connect the scanner to a computer with a parallel port.

Don't have one that's good enough to run Linux. Closest match is a 586 laptop.

Besides, I'd really like to avoid having to sneakernet between systems...
