How to Install your Lexmark Inkjet Printer in Puppy

#1 Post by rcrsn51 »

Lexmark has stopped making inkjet printers. Here are links to an assortment of drivers for Puppy.

1. Look here for a driver that handles some old models.

2. A few Lexmark inkjet models have Postscript emulation. This means that you just need a PPD file instead of a full driver package. Read here.

3. The driver here supports models in the 3600, 4600, 5600, 6600, 7600, 4900 or Z2400 series plus the Pro200, Pro700, Pro800, Pro900, S300, S400, S500 and S600 series. It has been tested successfully on a Pro905 and an S608 with USB and WIFI connections. Both printing and scanning worked, but there are some caveats.

Printer

Ideally, CUPS will auto-detect your networked printer and assign a Connection URI based on its MAC address. For example:

Code: Select all

lxhcp://ABCDE12345
But if CUPS does not detect the printer, there are some work-arounds.

a. Do a manual install using the AppSocket/JetDirect device and the printer's IP address. The Connection URI will look like

Code: Select all

socket://aaa.bbb.cc.dd
b. Run the command

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/cups/backend/lxhcp
This will show you the MAC version. Select AppSocket/JetDirect but paste in this URI instead of the socket version.

Scanner

When you run Xsane or Peasyscan, there is a LONG pause before the scanner starts working.

There are reports that networked scanning fails with some models.

Thank you! This was very helpful!

I just installed a Lexmark P707 and this was the only post in all the first two pages of Google search results that worked.

I noticed the Lexmark 3500-4500 series is absent from this list. Is anyone aware of drivers that work for this one? It's a wireless, wi-fi connect with scanner. My exact model is X4530.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Best,

Am I correct in my understanding that there's no Linux driver for the Lexmark x8350?

6. The driver here supports the models in #4 plus the Pro200, Pro700, Pro800, Pro900, S300, S400, S500 and S600 series. It has been tested successfully on a Pro905 and an S608 with USB and WIFI connections. Both printing and scanning worked, but there are some caveats.
I really would like to get my Pro700 series network printer running again, but the link referred to in the above quote is no longer valid. Can this be found anywhere else?

I have re-uploaded this driver. Be aware that the download will eventually go dead again from non-use. So keep a copy of the PET somewhere safe.

rcrsn51,

I think if you contact smokey01 he will let you store stuff in his repository.

There is a link for sending him a E-mail message.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Mind you rcrsn51's post is 4-30-13, Saluki's 4-4-12.

May or may not work. I'm sure you'll  take one for the team, right?
