Some questions about using Slacko

#1 Post by shoutcrown »

hello

i have slacko puppy (no pae) 5.7 installed on dell latitude c600 (frugal mode), now i have these 3 questions:

- how to reduce the brightness of the screen?

* also the default Fn.. keys work but the brightness is still too much high

* there is nothing in this path /sys/class/backlight/

* when i execute xrandr it says:

"output default..."

so i cannot use the next command (but it works very well on another desktop pc)

xrandr --output LVDS-1 --brightness 0.67

* Setup -> Xorg Video Wizard' -> Monitor gamma calibration, doesnt work.

- how to set mplayer always to play files to the max volume by default?

by default the volume is the middle of the top volumen, also shortcut keys (0,9) work very well

- how can i open images from folders and subfolders (recursively) using viewnior?

I would like a command to execute from terminal so I can view the pictures in the same order they are stored (i tried other methods, buy they open the pictures in a strange order)

please can somebody help me?

thanks

Hey there ShoutCrown,

In package manager, you may be able to do something with xbacklight.

MPlayer has options.. See the manpage for adding those to ~/.mplayer/config.

Recursive Viewnior? That's a script someone else might be able to help you with.

Works OK for me.

Are you making all settings to the negative (-) number, equally?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
YaPI(any iso installer)

Actually, Viewnior's OK >> it's light. For features though I prefer Geeqie.

hi

semme: In package manager, you may be able to do something with xbacklight.

is there xbacklight for slacko puppy 5.7? (i was searching but i couldnt find it, i could only find an older version for another version of puppy which doesnt work)

also i couldnt find a way to set mplayer to the max volume by default, that is why i am asking this question here, and i couldnt find a way to open pictures recursively (folders subfolders) using viewnior from command line

bigpup: Are you making all settings to the negative (-) number, equally?

yeah, when i put negative equal numbers there is a change but the result is very very bad so i guess this is not the right way to change only the brightness (no contrast)

You may want to try this solution which worked on my acer - it had same issue as you described after installation.

1. Find menu.lst that is used by GrubforDos you installed, open it in text editor
2. In the file, find line "Kernel". append this expression to the end of the line: acpi_osi=Linux

Your built in screen brightness combination (Fn+key) shall work perfectly after reboot. In my case, this was the solution to the backlight issue.
