Thanks for doing a mirror of L.A.S.S.I.E. 002!

But there is a faulty file listed in the mirrors (so far).

It is: LP2_Aqualung09b11.sfs

The Name listed here is: LP2_Aqualung_0.9-beta11-precise.sfs

The LP2_Aqualung09b11.sfs is the one from the Lucid based LazY Puppy. It will neither run nor work in L.A.S.S.I.E. or precise in general!

The LP2_Aqualung_0.9-beta11-precise.sfs currently is not available to download (only existing locally on my drives). I have chosen to not to upload this file, because I have written a short Guide, HowTo build a SFS Module from multiple .deb files, downloaded by the package manager., to let the user learn, how easy it is to build a SFS Module using L.A.S.S.I.E. and the SFS P.L.U.S. tools.

Thanks for removing this faulty file from the mirrors.

OK.

Meanwhile I have extended a little my private version of L.A.S.S.I.E.

It is now extremely usable for working on pictures and photographs.

Also it is a nice Audio and Video Studio.

All was build by using either SFS Modules from LazY Puppy Repository or by building new SFS Modules from .deb files downloaded by Package Manager.

Images attached showing a few examples. Ardour was made from scabz's files.

Other files are build like it is described here.

Ok,

I have tried to build a L.A.S.S.I.E. based on the new Slacko 5.7 no PAE ISO.

Everything seemed to work fine. The Menu Categories and Entries are showing up nicely in the OS related to the Language setup. Also the Right-click items of ROX and of the drive icons.

But now, I've discovered all programs are just partly translated by gettext. There seems to be big differences of used GUI text between precise and slacko.

Since the German language package is the one which has been setup best of all langpacks I've tested so far, I'm convinced that the results in other languages different to DE will be much less usable.

So I have to wait for all langpacks to be setup for the use in Slacko.

Though I doubt this will ever happen...

...which would be very pity since the new slacko really has some stuff, that I would add to a "PLUS"-List.

So it's up now to the langpack builders...

Thanks, oui. Visited and posted.

Ok.

A German user has found creation of a save file at shutdown is not working in L.A.S.S.I.E. 002 non PAE Version - which was a bit surprising to me. While doing some testings on this, I found creation of a save file at shutdown is also not working in L.A.S.S.I.E. 002 PAE Version!

So this forces me to build L.A.S.S.I.E. 003, which will take some time. It depends on how fast I can solve this problem (was successfully tested in 001, so I can't imagine where to start at the moment). Even though I would solve this tomorrow, a new upload can't be done earlier than end of May or beginning of June 2014.

Meanwhile one can use the built in Save File Builder (Menu Utilities) to create an empty save file, which can be loaded at next boot. Mount your boot partition first and make sure, its free space is higher than the requested save file size.

When using L.A.S.S.I.E. 002 with a save file in use, I recommend to shutdown/reboot the Computer by a right-click onto a drive icon, which will first unload all loaded SFS Modules. Otherwise it could be necessary to unload previous loaded SFS Modules manually at next boot, before they can be used again. In such case there may arrive a message about a SFS Module not found - even though it is locally existing.

I have uploaded these files to the LazY Puppy SFS Repository at smoke01.com.

Each SFS Module comes with dependencies (libs) included, so all Programs should work also in each Precise Puppy and its derivatives.

Note:

!!! If you want to expand this Version of SARA-ScriptBox and want to add new Applications (SFS Modules) you need to use L.A.S.S.I.E. for this. !!!

SARA-ScriptBox for L.A.S.S.I.E. Version 0.0.2. is preconfigured to download the SFS Modules automatically at first try to run the Application. The SFS Modules will download to /root/Downloads (make sure there is a Directory /root/Downloads existing) and will load the SFS Modules to execute the Applications from Directory 'Modules' at boot partition (make sure there is a Directory 'Modules' at your boot partition existing). After downloading a SFS Module there will be a Message that wants you to move the downloaded SFS Module to Directory 'Modules' at your boot partition - so just do it.

Unpack SARA-ScriptBox-for-LASSIE.tar.gz and copy its content (RoxApp Directory 'SARA-ScriptBox-LASSIE') to a EXT partition (NTFS will not work for RoxApps and VFAT will not keep the symlinks) before trying to use it.

Inside of RoxApp Directory 'SARA-ScriptBox-LASSIE' (open it by right-click option) there is a Script, SARA-Apps-Config-Patcher, which can be used, to patch all the .cfg Files of the SARA-RSD Applications to easily set a new Directory for the use of the SFS Modules. Let option to download the SFS Modules automatically activated. This will be deactivated for each SFS Module separately after the SFS Module is downloaded.

Hope you can enjoy this...

Hi.

I have uploaded L.A.S.S.I.E. 002 PAE Version packaged as Puppy-Windows-Installer, so it can easily be installed (and un-installed) in Windows.

Download LASSIE-002-PAE.exe

RSH
Thank you for all your work, I very much like your multi desktop setup
I am new to linux yet feel it worth my while to slowly learn the basics so as to be able to use it frequently and move away from that mans OS that keeps letting viruses into my system

Regarding your above post about a problem with the save file

I downloaded your Version 0.0.2 ISO a few days ago and ran it for the first time last night, it booted fast - A good job done by you considering what is included

Being aware of the save file problem I went ahead with setting everything up in the same way as I had set-up Precise Puppy a month ago (create a save file on my HDD to my specified size and then create another save file for the program files) The save file to a requested 4Gb was created (LassiePrecisesave_cryptx-myname.2fs) the programs save file was not created.

Can you help me solve a problem until your release of Version 0.0.3 ISO
The problem I have is that I am stuck at create a save file from the menu using the included save fail creator tool, the reason I am stuck is that I already have a 4Gb (LassiePrecisesave_cryptx-myname.2fs) file that I chose to have encrypted and that works as it should. I did use the save file tool in the menu to look and learn what it does and ended up with LassiePrecisesave-myname2.2fs alongside my other save file, as I have some knowledge of Puppy (not much but learning) I now understand what I had done as on the next boot I was given the option to boot from the encrypted save file that lassie built or the empty save file that I created using the tool.
I hope I have explained my dilemma in a fashion that you are able to understand. What I need to know is how do I create a save file for the programs included in your ISO to be saved to my HDD and shorten the loading time for lassie, I am guessing that I will first need to rename the save file I created with the tool so that Lassie will recognise it as the file to write the programs to when booting from the ISO for the first time, if my guess is correct - what do I rename the save file as, if my guess is incorrect - I am at a total loss as to what is required to solve my problem
Thank you in advance, I look forward to your insructions and appreciate all your time and work that you have put in to create a linux puppy that is free for anyone to use
My apologies, I have just read through this post - I had no intention of writing a book

Ok.

I'm not sure if I do understand completely.

If you'll stay online, I will be back in a few minutes, so we can try to come trough it.

Just choose the save file you want to use and boot the system.

What programs are you referring to?

Inside of the ISO just these files:

boot.cat
boot.msg
help2.msg
help.msg
initrd.gz
isolinux.bin
isolinux.cfg
LassiePrecise_002.sfs
logo.16
LP2_ImageMagick-6.6.9-5.sfs
Modules-running-in-LASSIE-Precise.txt
README.HTM
vmlinuz

If you want to copy these files to your HDD, just left-click the ISO and copy its content to your HDD or into a directory at your HDD - just use drag'n'drop between two Rox File Manager Windows.

Quote:
and shorten the loading time for lassie

This is meant for booting faster from HDD instead of booting from CD?

If you want to install L.A.S.S.I.E. to your HDD tell me some of the specs:
- what drive
- other Operating Systems installed
- a.s.o.

Thank you for your time and quick reply yesterday

The information you posted solved all my problems, the file I needed was LassiePrecise_002.SFS, due to my lack of knowledge I wasnt aware that the SFS file was so easily got at from inside your ISO

I am ok booting from Cd but will probably carry out a full HDD install some time in the future

Thank you once again and sorry to have bothered you
