Canon FB630P Parallel Scanner + USB-to-Parallel Adapter
Canon FB630P Parallel Scanner + USB-to-Parallel Adapter
I have a Canon FB630P parallel-only scanner (it's old; someone gave it to me for free).
I want to use it with PeasyScan 2.6 on X-Slacko 1.1. I am using a generic USB-to-Parallel adapter that *should* be working (I'm not 100% sure that it is) in order to connect it to my laptop, which is much too new for a parallel port.
I found this thread and followed the directions in muggins' post about 3/4 of the way through the thread. No joy.
What do I do?

Hi starhawk - I tried searching for your firmware but unfortunately, Canon's Website didn't have it. They only had drivers for Windows 95 and Windows 98 but NO firmware. If you want to download the driver and look maybe they had the firmware bundled on the package, you can try.

Go to /etc/sane.d and open the file dll.conf in a text editor. UNcomment the line "canon_pp".starhawk wrote:I have a Canon FB630P parallel-only scanner. I am using a generic USB-to-Parallel adapter
However this driver wants to talk directly to a parallel port and you are connecting through a USB adapter. So I doubt if it will work.

Connect the scanner to a computer with a parallel port.starhawk wrote:Is there more I can do, or should I give up?
