I tried SNS that and Dougal's they connect but suddendly I lose connection and I lose internet settings. I can't understand what is the problem, my connection with windows vista works flawless.Sage wrote:Frisbee is a pain in the rear - for my extensive range of HW and my ISP with PoA it has never ever functioned correctly and reliably, although it does for some folks. Get rid of it. The old ones are the best: try SNS first, then Dougal's if that isn't OK.
Carolite is still unable to connect by any means via SiS190 although Carolina finds it OK.

Don't know about settings loss, but
this used to happen frequently at one time. If a guru doesn't help, it might be worth Search-ing back a few years. There were some timing issues. Verify your router settings? Try another HD that DOES NOT contain a W partition? Also check your ISP isn't playing silly tricks?I lose connection

subtitle encoding problem
Hi. I new in this world of Puppy Linux, and Carolite impressed me the moment I tried it. Everything is great, except one little thing. Video players (GNOME Mplayer, SMplayer, VLC) don't use encoding I select (CP1250), so some letters are now shown right (šđ
Re: subtitle encoding problem
Welcome, blast beat
I guess you're trying to use subtitle text files?
Your system may be using other encoding than CP1250, perhaps UTF/Unicode, or whatever you chose on your initial QuickSetup as your country settings, and so the media player apps (and the rest) probably orient themselves by & enforce the chosen system encoding.
So, you could try switching/adapting your country settings (QuickSetup in the Control Panel).
For translating different encodings of text, there's probably a tool somewhere on the internet that you can find and use to convert, for example, from CP1250 to UTF8.
Let us know how it goes for you.

I used to only like Puppy as a friend, but now I think our relationship is starting to develop into something more... :D

How can I get the Xfce mail-notier in the taskbar?
Re: Xfce mail notifier
I've compiled xfce4-mailwatch-plugin, try this and let me know if that works for you, I tried it with my isp mail account and it's working for me. xfce4-mailwatch-plugin-1.1.0.petbruno wrote:How can I get the Xfce mail-notier in the taskbar?

This is the 1st time I have had a problem like this in any of my Puppy installs. Full or frugal and am quite stumped to be honest. Just plan weird.

I compiled the latest bash, this fixes the inxi, the updated inxi now runs.
if you want to update the bash, it might pay to backup the current version in /bin/bash as I haven't fully test the new one, but at a guess I think it should be a goer.

Xfce mail watcher
Thanks, Geoffrey!
The pet installed, and the mail watcher seems to be working, but when I try to make it check my Gmail, it cannot connect, and the log says: could not find host "mail.google.com" servname not supported for ai_socktype
It should be working for gmail, because I use it with gmail with Xfce on Xubuntu, Fedora and Debian.

I had the same problem at first using the " Remote GMail Mailbox " so I set it up as in the image usingbruno wrote:Thanks, Geoffrey!

Remote POP3 Mailbox
Mail Server: pop.gmail.com
Use SSL/TLS on alternate port
Use non-standard POP3 port 995
that's working for me, though it did take a couple attempts to get it to work.

Thank you Geoffrey. I even ried pu[ppy pfix=ram boot hoping to find the original. Just posting back to let you know it works. I am one sick puppy with the flu so I am going to leave this be before updating. Can't breathe or think.

carolina 1.2
I mentioned this some time back. You answered and said it was a problem
with woof builds or something like that, I did not understand the answer.
To refresh your memory: When I updated to Carolina 1,2 I lost the
desktop. It blinks several times and then goes off, I tried fixing the
desktop file by replacing it with a new one but it did not help.
Since then my brother put Carolina 1.2 on six different computers. Some
are laptops and some are desktop computers, Carolina's 1.2 desktop
does not work on any of them. They are all frugal installs. He has now
gone back to Carolina 1.0 which works fine.
I am still using Carolina 1.2 without a desktop. Not my favorite way of
working. Is there someway to get the desktop working again?
Hope you can help me.

Re: carolina 1.2
Hello, Pete22. I'm not an expert. I snipped some of your text.
I just downloaded carolite-1.2 (as I understand, it's a stripped-down Carolina),
and it works fine.
Have you tried it without the save file?

Re: carolina 1.2
I really don't know why you have this problem, the update to 1.2 was only mainly application software and a few scripts unrelated to xfce.Pete22 wrote: When I updated to Carolina 1,2 I lost the

I would suspect that there is something wrong with the ISO downloaded for it not to work on all 6 computers, was that clean installs or using an existing save file.Since then my brother put Carolina 1.2 on six different computers. Some

The ISO md5 should be db187f3a4a1cfef0b2c0b47d48e01a09, it's strange as nobody else as reported this problem.
Can anyone else confirm that the md5 is correct for the 1.2 version they are using,

Confirmed correct for the 1.2 I have - and runs perfectly for me on a couple of different computers around here - never any hint of trouble displaying the desktop. I'd try a fresh download of the .iso if you can, Pete22!Geoffrey wrote:
