USB Installer not compatible with Win XP?

Hi, I'm new to Linux and having some trouble getting started with Puppy.
I wonder if I could enlist your help?

I have chosen Puppy for its lightweight footprint on my older system:

448 MB of RAM
Windows XP Home, Service Pack 3

I intend to try Linux Puppy (Latest Release) using the USB boot method, primarily to surf the 'net with less risk of viruses and to get a feel for using Linux.

So far, I have downloaded the .ISO to my hard drive, cleared up a decent sized USB stick and read through the installation instructions at the following location:

I'm stuck on the Universal USB Installer now, though. Apparently, in the notes, the installer I'm going for says it isn't compatible with Windows XP.

I'm a little stumped now, as I thought Linux Puppy was ideal for 'older machines'. By 'older', I kind of expected the inclusion of machines running older versions of Windows... (which is kind of the point)...?

So can anyone please suggest from where I should obtain the right USB Installer, in order to make my bootable USB drive for Linux Puppy?

I apologise in advance, if there is something stupidly obvious I've missed. I've searched about a bit, but I keep ending up going around in circles and coming back to the same place. So thought I'd ask here, before going any further.

It does say compatible with XP ...

IMPORTANT NOTE: Your USB drive must be Fat16/Fat32/NTFS formatted, otherwise Syslinux will fail and your drive will NOT Boot.

Windows XP/Vista/7 or WINE to create the USB (Win 98/2K WILL NOT Work!)
*Fat16, Fat32, or NTFS Formatted Flash Drive

but I've never tried it , ( years ago I burned a copy of puppy to DVD and booted from that , then used tools in that puppy to create live USB versions thereafter ).

Welcome to the forums

Just my opinion only but it might be easier if you have a CD-ROM drive/writer just to burn a copy of the .iso to a blank CD and install it from there.

You can try and do it using UNetbootin

Get the Puppy iso file from this forum or one of the Puppy websites.

UNetbootin can create a bootable Live USB drive, or it can make a "frugal install" on your local hard disk if you don't have a USB drive. It loads distributions either by downloading a ISO (CD image) files for you, or by using an ISO file you've already downloaded.

I've used Universal USB Installer to install Puppy from XP a bunch of times. It should work.

Just download it, it doesn't need to be installed. Just click on the file you download and a dialog will open up. Just follow the instructions from there.

unetbootin in XP works just fine for me. Mostly however using live-cd's

now on a FS E8310 laptop with Intel display chips there's no "blank screen" problem as with some other laptops (of which I have seven around...). My two top choices are LxPup-14.03-3-pae and Slacko-5.7.0

both of these do (*) recognize my 3G modem, have my usual Firefox browser and the GetFlash works ok. (*) Yes, recognizing the 3G dongle despite a message telling the very contrary, immediately after that pupdial however tells "/dev/ttyUSB0" and connects fine. (Some timing issue here?)

Wary 5.5 works ok, but at first has only the SeaMonkey browser.
LuPu 528-005 otherwise ok, but GetFlash Install Flashplayer not working (a timing issue? Very hastily says "cannoct connect". All other browsing works ok)

Puppy linux can be installed without the need of a CD .
Several packages have be developed.
