Cpu cooling fan went out (Solved)

#1 Post by fixit »

The cpu cooling fan went out on my desktop system.

I am sure glad that it told me and shut down the system instead of letting the cpu get fried. :-)

I am having problems finding a replacement.

It is a CE AUB0812HH 12 V 3.2 amp.

Is it specific for the CPU which is a AMD 64 ?

I had another fan, but it only has 2 wires instead of the 3 that the bad fan has.

Thanks.

you can use the fan with the 2 wires as long as it fits your heat sink.
the 3 wire fans are for controling the speed if you use the 2 wire fan it will just run at maxx speed all the time which will keep your pc cool but be a little loud.

Can I just re-attach the new fan or should I put on some new cpu thermal paste ?

Thanks.

if you did not remove the heatsink from the motherboad then you can just hook up new fan.

if you did remove the heat sink then yes you need 2 clean the cpu and heatsink off and apply new paste or pad.

Fixit, you put "solved" in the title but you haven't actually said what you did to solve the problem. :?

I ordered a new 3 wire cpu cooling fan and some thermal paste.

Should have it back up by Saturday.

I also got a used video card so my monitor is not using 256 Mb of my RAM.

I got it from this movie, which I thought was pretty good.
