Steam for Fatdog64 6.0.1
Steam for Fatdog64 6.0.1
I have Steam running just fine on FatDog64 6.0.1.
I am wondering how much demand there is for a package. Let me know if you want one and which puppy version you are using.

steam on dPup 3.6.2.1
I tried installing the 'official' steam for linux on my dPup 3.6.2.1 and when I try running it, all I see is a quick flash of an outline of a box before it disappears.
I have a few Second Life (VR Worlds) clients running without problems using the NVidia 3.10 drivers, so I'm assuming the graphics isn't the problem.

According to ssanubis some lines need commenting out in a script in /usr/bin

you will need to install zenity, or possibly you may get away with a symlink to yad called zenity in /usr/bin.
as well as what darkcity says above, you will need to open /usr/bin/steam as text and comment out lines where it warns about running as root (it's 136 - 139 on mine)
Code: Select all
# Don't allow running as root
#if [ "$(id -u)" == "0" ]; then
# show_message --error $"Cannot run as root user"
# exit 1
#fi

dPup 3.6.2.1 steam fails
Nope... still no go.
Installed zenity and commented out the root check but the popup box just flashes by with no error msgs.
And the newly released steam script does not match the one in the mentioned forums.

may need some linking to your version of glibc
what happens if with the command
ldd --version
people can make this page better by sharing which glibc version is on their Puppy

WhooHoo... Steam for Debian & Wheezy
Slashdot reported on someone who provided a repackage of Steam4Linux so that it includes the required glibc 2.15 libs.

I'm on Precise 5.4, and the zenity + comment out trick worked for me. I also installed all the packages the pop-up window said I needed to add. Steam looks gnarly, with grey bars blocking out a lot of the text and almost no images currently working, but several of the games launch and play very smoothly.
Re: Steam for Fatdog64 6.0.1
Fatdog 6.2 has been released and it's great. I wonder if you can build a package for it. ThanksLiboicl wrote:I have Steam running just fine on FatDog64 6.0.1.

Re: Steam package
Sorry about taking so long to respond. Do you still need it for 6.2?pedro wrote:Fatdog 6.2 has been released and it's great. I wonder if you can build a package for it. ThanksLiboicl wrote:I have Steam running just fine on FatDog64 6.0.1.

I'll try to package one up for Lupu.RickGT351 wrote:I'm running Lupu 5.2.8.005. I tried installing the deb package from steampowered.com but it won't run.
ldd (Ubuntu EGLIBC 2.11.1-0ubuntu7) 2.11.1
Tried to install glibc 2.15 but was getting a bit tired so couldn't figure how.
Tried installing the steam pet - no go
