L.A.S.S.I.E. - Version 0.0.2 - a new LazY Puppy

#1 Post by RSH »

Some Information in DE starting here

Hello!

This is...

L. A. S. S. I. E.

What does L.A.S.S.I.E. mean?

L. azY Puppy Modular Concept
A. ntiquity Icon Set - including the Wallpapers
S. ARA-B
S. FS P.L.U.S.
I. ncredible VarioMenu
E. xtension SFS Module

L.A.S.S.I.E. 002 PAE is based on Precise 5.7.1, its Kernel is 3.9.11.
L.A.S.S.I.E. 002 NO PAE is based on Precise 5.7.1-retro, its Kernel is 3.2.48.

L.A.S.S.I.E. is build with the LazY Puppy ISO Builder 1.0.42, which is a fork of Woofy 0.91, put together in combination with LazY Remaster Suite, which makes me able to create a new L.A.S.S.I.E. (or whatever Puppy) always from the clean base ISO File - all Settings are saved and can be loaded for later use. So, each new ISO uses the fresh and clean base ISO and is then just remastered once!

L.A.S.S.I.E. is the new LazY Puppy and in fact a result of developing the LazY Puppy ISO Builder 1.0.42

Special Features (green = updated in 002):

- Shutdown/Reboot immediately without running 'shutdownconfig' to create a save file
- - can be switched on/off in Shutdown-GUI

- 10 activated Desktops
- - 8 Desktops are synchronized with the Incredible VarioMenu
- - - These Desktops/VarioMenu-Groups are:
- - - Administrator, Audio, Favorites, Graphics, Internet, Multimedia, Office and Video
- - - Each Desktop now has its own wallpaper

- Desktops and VarioMenu-Groups can be switched by the VarioMenu-Icon, centered on top of the Screen
- - they can also be switched by the VarioMenu-Group Pager Icon, in SysTray
- - Desktops and VarioMenu-Groups can be switched by keyboard shortcuts
- - Strg 1 switches to Desktop 1, Alt 1 switches to VM-Group 1 (e.g.)

- Right-click Functions for the Drive Icons are well improved
- - Function 'Unmount ALL mounted Partitions' will first unload all loaded SFS Modules
- - after this all mounted ISO, SFS and 2fs, 3fs, 4fs Files in /mnt will be unmounted
- - then the Drives do unmount

- Added Option to the Right-click Menu of the Drive Icons to execute some programs
- 'GParted' Partition Manager
- 'Grub4Dos' Boot Config Manager

- Added Option to the Right-click Menu of the Drive Icons to Power Off the Computer
- - it will first unload all loaded SFS Modules
- - after this all mounted ISO, SFS and 2fs, 3fs, 4fs Files in /mnt will be unmounted
- - then the Drives do unmount
- - then the Shutdown-GUI appears on the Screen

- Changed behavior when clicking a PET file
- - a GUI appears when a PET is clicked the 1st time in a session
- - - it offers option to choose either to build a SFS Module automatically
- - - or to install the PET package as usual
- - - if 'build a SFS Modue' is chosen, it will be used as default during the session
- - - though, one can still install PET packages by right-clicking it

- L.A.S.S.I.E. knows its boot partition, boot directory, 1st parallel partition and 2nd parallel partition (Boot Partition=sdd1 --> sdd2 --> sdd3)
- - it falls back to boot partition, if no other partition is available at the boot drive

Download L.A.S.S.I.E. 002 PAE - 195 MB
Download L.A.S.S.I.E. 002 NO PAE - 208 MB
New: Download LASSIE-002-PAE.exe - 196 MB

Please, use the original devx_precise_5.7.1.sfs for Development, but rename it to LassiePrecise_DevX.sfs.

Additional Information to L.A.S.S.I.E.
HowTo's, Tips and Information

B
How to use the new boot option lpextsfs ?
HowTo build a SFS from multiple .deb files downloaded by Package Manager ?
HowTo build a PlugIn SFS for the use with GIMP ?

O
How to use Openshot 1.4.3 with Blender 2.63 ?

V
How to add Icons to the VarioMenu-Group (Desktop) ?

Additional new SFS Modules for L.A.S.S.I.E.
published on a later date as L.A.S.S.I.E. has been published

LP2_Openshot-1.4.3-precise.sfs - this Openshot comes with Python included !!!
Since the Blender 2.63 3D Studio seems to work in L.A.S.S.I.E., it can be used for Openshot to create Animated Titles.
Python27-for-Openshot143.sfs - this is only needed, if you are using one of those Openshot packages to be found here.

Software in Single SFS Modules:
already available in LazY Puppy Repository

I haven't included RunScripts for SFS Modules in L.A.S.S.I.E. 002, since I don't know, what Application the user wants to use or how many of them he/she will have builtin to the OS.

The ISO contains a text file containing a list of SFS Modules, that will/should run in L.A.S.S.I.E. 002. Just download those modules wanted manually and put them into the L.A.S.S.I.E. 002 boot directory. After this create RunScripts for the SFS Modules and do a remaster (use SFS P.L.U.S. Remaster for this!).

Applications installed in L.A.S.S.I.E. 002:

01-WM-MenuExtensions.pet - Extension of JWM Menus
Antiquity-Pkg.pet - Antiquity Icon Package by ARu, extended by myself
AudioSounds-1.0.pet - Audio files from LazY Puppy and Studio 4 (13.37)
Faenza-Icons-LP3-Small.pet - Icons for the mime-types
Gtk-Theme-ShallowThought.pet - as it says...
Guides.pet - Leads to some Online Information for L.A.S.S.I.E.
LazY-DAC-1.0.2.pet - Defaults Applications Changer (based on scOttman's app, but extended)
LazY-ECo-0.3.6.pet - a useful Copy Program
LazY-IconSwitcher-1.0.0.pet - modified Version of icon_switcher
LazY_SeparatedFileList_Builder-0.0.5.pet - creates File Lists by Right-Click Action
LP3_SFS_PLUS-3.9.9-50.pet - as it says, the 1st MEAN Part (includes sfs_load 2.0.x) !!!
PNG2JPG_Convert-0.1.pet - as it says...
Rename-RoxMenu-Entries-1.0.6.pet - as it says...
RSHs_ScriptBox_Icons.pet - a roundabout 8 MB Icon Package
SARA-B-ScriptBox-0.0.6.pet - the 2nd MEAN Part, new Version, HowTo will follow
Save_File_Builder-1.0.7.pet - creates (and manages) (almost) empty save files
Shutdown-GUI-1.0.16.pet - as it says
VarioMenuGUI-1.0.22-3.0x.pet - as it says, the 3rd MEAN Part
Wallpapers.pet - the L.A.S.S.I.E. VM-Group-Wallpapers
Zuletzt-Icon-CloseBoxes.pet - close boxes for the drive icons, taken from Slacko 5.7
ZZ-LazY-Tools.pet - some mean mean background tools
ZZ-RightClickTools.pet - ROX right-click functions
GtkDialog-084-Precise.pet - as it says
PackageManagerFiles-Update-Precise.pet - as it says
Precise-Specials.pet - modified files from precise like: delayedrun, quicksetup, pupeventfuncs etc.
WebFixes-Precise.pet - pppoe fix from shinobar's JPPrecise
ZZ-Zuletzt-Additions-Precise-official.pet - additions for the official L.A.S.S.I.E. build
Langpack_de-20140401-RSH-EU-Version-01.pet - as it says
Finalize-LassiePrecise-official.pet - final settings for the new L.A.S.S.I.E. OS

Most of the Applications listed above are not available to download or just available as some older versions. So do not install them into L.A.S.S.I.E. 002!

Best would be: don't install any application developed and published by myself, that has been published before date of 02.04.2014 !!!

I will give this a spin as soon as I can, found a new Linux to USB app for Macs! I love my Macs but they don't play well with Linux so hope to give it a spin. If not, I will load it up on my netbook.

Hello, John.

Thank you for your post, downloading L. A. S. S. I. E. and trying to use it on a your computer.

I'm currently trying to find out, what programs (from my huge list of SFS Modules) will work in L. A. S. S. I. E. - the results (a list of applications) will find its place in the second post of this thread.

For the moment I can tell, that Openshot Video Editor seems to work in L. A. S. S. I. E., if the DEVX is loaded to the OS (it needs the Python).

Hope you can enjoy it,

Rainer

Hi.
Thanks for your work.
So far works well except my pppoe connection.
I had to replace pppoe-setup files from Shinobar's version to be able
to connect.

I so, so, so, agree with this. I wanted to play with Python, wxPython and BaCon. The download was as big as the LxPup I use!

Hope you put up links to the packages too or maybe get Bigbass to help you make a download manager.

Yes, it can use .pet files as usual.

When I'm creating SFS Modules I first create a .pet package to install and test.

If anything went fine, I do create the SFS Module directly from this .pet package by right-click action.

LASSIE has a nice original feel. The icons are unique, and the wallpaper is nicely tuned to the icon theme. The default wallpaper could be a little lighter though - the drive icons blend in a bit on old monitors :)

You might consider adding one or two additional b&w/sepia wallpapers; perhaps an old farmhouse in a field or a classic still-life, etc.

Thanks for making puppy a little more enjoyable.

Could you tell me exactly, what files you did replace, or even send me a package?
So I could provide it for anyone else having same problems.

Thanks.

That's just how it was supposed to be. No confusing the user by doing too many or too different changes. Just trying to keep it original as far as possible and to add useful tools and apps for the easiness and joy of using a Puppy Linux.
The icons are unique, and the wallpaper is nicely tuned to the icon theme. The default wallpaper could be a little lighter though - the drive icons blend in a bit on old monitors
The Icons are created by ARu, I've just made some additions and re-creations and added the Wallpapers also provided by ARu - except the default Wallpaper, which I did found on the web long time ago and did some work on it for the use in L.A.S.S.I.E. by using GIMP 2.6.12.
You might consider adding one or two additional b&w/sepia wallpapers; perhaps an old farmhouse in a field or a classic still-life, etc.
Do you got a link to such (free) images?
I think, some more Wallpapers could/should be provided in a different SFS Module.

Please, could you explain, what is a steampunk? Maybe adding a picture?

I have added new information to the second post of this topic about the use of the new boot option lpextsfs.

Steampunk?

It's like Dieselpunk, kind of a concept of cyfi and fantasy.

Sorry, wrong thread for this idea.

Hi.
I took them from Puppy precise 5.7.1JP.
She worked so hard, long time ago to solve that problem.
