Ah! Remove (i.e. uninstall) that pcursor-0.1 pet. (The selector is already built into Puppy, it is just the extra themes that are not)bobtron wrote:Tnx ETP

I don't think I have seen anyone in this thread mention OPENVPN yet, so I thought I would report that I have openvpn up and running on Quirky Tahr 6.0.5, using openvpn_2.3.2 from the PPM/Ubuntu repository.
Although openvpn can be run from the terminal, I am using a GUI facilitator, GADMIN-openvpn-client. This is available also in the Ubuntu repository as version 0.1.2-4, but I have compiled a later version from the maintainer with bug fixes etc.; compiled it under Quirky Tahr 6.05/devx-6.0.5.
GADMIN also has an openvpn server in the Ubuntu repository, but I use the client to connect to a commercial openvpn service provider. GADMIN-openvpn-client-0.1.9 will import config files downloaded from commercial openvpn service providers, and it is a fairly straightforward process to set up a connection. One can enable activation of the program at boot, so that anytime the browser is used, it is working through an encrypted tunnel.
I went ahead and made a PET of GADMIN-openvn-client-0.1.9, should anyone else be interested.

Back to the rfkill subject
On my HP Compaq 6510b I put the rfkill line into the rc.d/rc.networking_basic file. I placed it at the top right before the networking entries start. I only use the unblock all option so I don't need more than one line.
Thank you, Barry, for the newer Quirky Tahr. It has made my hobby much more enjoyable. Keep up fantastic work. I am learning more now than I have in a long time.

Childproofing
Barry,
thanks for the childproofing description, though---
No kids here so don't need childproofing, don't want it,
irrelevant, surplus to requirements.
If you must impose this module upon us, could you please
at least allow options to either not install it with the next SP
or un-install it afterwards.
Thanks.

My opinion:
childproofing - yes, but only as a separate Modulus, with the option to uninstall, just as described in the previous post.

Greetings slenkar {?spell check}
best good guess? try navigating to /usr/local/apps
if iicon is in that folder? just drag it back to your desktop.
Hope I guessed it right.
GL !
or try /usr/share/ applications and then find browser desktop icon {might be "default browser}.
Then you can drag/copy to your desktop..Once on desktop you can right click on the icon on "edit" the name..such as "do not remove"..-haha

VLC Web PlugIn has crashed
Quirky Tahr 6.0.5
Chrome Version 32.0.1700.107
Tried to stream music from this site and:
Used pupRadio which opened VLC and it is playing.
Also playing the stream directly in VLC works.
Then tried SeaMonkey 2.24 and it is playing within the browser.

grrrr, the hash codes don't match!
Anyone have the kosher hash codes for this?
So... you do not need to check the hash of a .pet file.A ".pet" file is actually a tarball, that is, a ".tar.gz" file, except that it has a 32-byte md5sum (file integrity verification code) appended on the end of the file.
All that the "pet2tgz" script does is remove that trailing md5sum. All that "tgz2pet" does is append the md5sum.
Bill
I download from
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing
It's a lot quicker but there's no md5sums.

Exactly... a .pet file has the md5 embedded.dogle wrote:.... thanks, folks ....sorry if I am now drifting somewhat OT but, Bill, am I correct in inferring from the Barry quote that the .pet process is self-checking download-wise (assuming that the download is completed fully)?
If so, sheesh! - I never knew that - every day is still a schoolday!
It does not 'self-check' on download, only when it is opened.
That is why you never see a list of md5 for .pet files.
