Figaro's password manager

#101 Post by bruno »

The included version of Figaro's Password Manager is an older version: 0.76
The latest version is 0.79, it has some bugfixes.

Thanks for the good advice! Yes, sometimes I get a boot prompt, sometimes not even that.

Maybe there could be a .config file to edit before burning (on a CD-RW anyway)?

1/ When puppy boots there is a 5 second window in which you can stop the auto configuring startup (that in your case results in a startup with blank screen) and get a prompt where you can boot with different parameters. This also gives the possibility to manually configure your video. Once you hit the right configuration (and have a storage file created) you should be okay.

2/ You are right about the Ubuntu broadband connection. It is a good example of how simple life can be. SNS (Simple Network Setup) in puppy linux comes close, but Frisbee (another tool) is more versatile, connects better, but has so many features users get overwhelmed. Maybe your post will trigger developers for puppy to improve this particular feature, or copy Ubuntu's.

Yes indeed I should not be lazy
I should to a schreensot to show why I get severly over whalemd.

I will try a simple one and you guys teach me to make better example.
So give me some hour and I edit this post with some picks

Will be editd later today/night
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Blank screen hardware and 3G not fully supported

#105 Post by as77 »

My set of problems with Amilo L7380GW and live-cd is complicated
- display Via S3 Unichrome Pro 64MB is not recognized
- or trying to use Openchrome fails, only generic VESA works
- very often I even get no boot prompt to start xorgwizard
- mobile broadband USB-modem is at first not recognized
- or maybe not at all

BTW: I'd love to see some discipline in naming Pyppy versions
- version say "5.99" gets forked to a very old sounding "1.00"
- better yet to have a timestamp like in Ubuntu, say "12.10"
- or date "20140302" as part of the name

For Lucid 5286

With this graphics card, you are always going to have problems with Linux support.
The Vesa driver is probably your best option.
There is nothing wrong with using the Vesa driver. It provides support for the common functions that all graphics hardware have.

Click on Quickpet icon on desktop.
In Quickpet->drivers tab
Run "click here to test your graphics card"
It may suggest some other or added driver to use.
very often I even get no boot prompt to start xorgwizard
I assume this is because it tries to do a good boot to desktop, guessing at what graphics driver to use. Sometimes it comes close to working and other times it fails.

At the Puppy boot screen, hit F2 for boot options screen.
The Puppy boot screen does not stay up for long, so you do need to be quick, in pressing F2, to get to boot options.

After you do get booted to desktop. When you shutdown, make a save file. Next time you boot, the save file will be used, with your custom settings.
mobile broadband USB-modem is at first not recognized
- or maybe not at all
Explain in detail what you see.
There is time needed to connect and establish setup.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Hi, I just noticed there is no battery indicator in the systray?

Even when I boot without the save file.

Feedback

#110 Post by tigs »

Just want give cerwin a feedback. It is not fair not to let you know that I have been using your lucid for a while. I have tried quite a few different versions of puppies. This is the one i eventually settled on. I just want to let you know that your work is greatly appreciated. Dont abandon it.

The reasons i like it are:

It is fast, it is truly cutting-edge, and has all the major repositories which gives wide selection of apps.

the only thing I would wish that there is a truly mini version. the menu is cluttered with a lot application I never use. It will be great if you can make a barebone version which has nothing but the minimal to get the puppy running, eg, package manager, network, pupsave, ect. what is available in the repository isleft to user to decide.

I have another question. Is there a guide as to hoe to edit menu categories? I would like at least to unstall some apps and removes some categories and consolidate the menu. I was able to uninstall all the games, but the "Fun" category is still there.

thanks for the great work.

Thanks for revitalizing this puppy! My favorite version for my Eeepc 900 since Puppeee was discontinued.

It brings back things I miss in the latest mainstream Puppies:

Quickpets, Pwidgets (need battery, temp. and wireless info), desktop icon setup menu, quick selection of browser downloads, and other things.

Some of these are available in one form or another for current Puppies, but Lupu has them all together.

Thank you for pointing that out. I have tested the latest version, 2.6-wary5, in lupu and sulu2 and it appears to work in both! So, I will add that to the next upload of lupu and friends.

tigs and kenh, thanks for your encouraging words. tigs, the way to remove entries from the menus is to delete the ".desktop" file for each one you want to remove. They reside in /usr/share/applications. That would remove only the entries, not the programs. But they contain the name of the program file that you might also remove, although you may then leave other components behind.

UP up kernel 3.9.9 perfect !

#116 Post by Pelo »

the number of Lucid renews increases. Good idea. upup 3.9.9 is ok, wireless connection, sound, Each can customize it, or not.
Really good way of doing things, permanent progress in a known environnement. Bien.
screen capture in Super Lucid : d'ont use VIDCAP 1.1.7 from PPM, but from my google drive repository. In fact it's a package done by our Kamarads from lupurus, ibiblio.org.
I'ts only 3.4MB. That's enough.

The reason I don't use it is due to me have dragged
.mozilla and .cache and some more to the HD
and dropped these for the older Lucy I use now.

I don't dare to touch this in case it get messed up.

I usually break things when I try to do such.

And the old Lu cy works well so see no immediate need
to change considering that I always forget how to do things.

Can 5.2.86 use previous 2fs files, older pets?

#118 Post by otropogo »

My installation of lupuplus 528.5 has gone terribly wrong. Suddenly, it can't find my Seamonkey profile, so Seamonkey won't run. Firefox won't let me set the check box to save passwords, my 2fs file has balooned to almost 6GB, where last time I checked it was under 2GB, and I can't seem to write from one hard drive to the other.

I prefer Seamonkey to Firefox, and I also need x-fprot, rawstudio and ufraw. Can I install all of those in the new lupu, or if not, can I load them from an old 2fs file?

I would suspect a corrupted save file.
fsck the save file.

Could be partition filesystem corruption. Check it also.

first i am wondering why there si a new iso for this as apposed to just an update .pet like with previous lupu528 versions. also as Lubuntu Lucid LTS has now been replaced byu Ubuntu tahr LTS what is teh future of this lupu os.

will this version of lucid puppy be updated to the new ubuntu tahr as that is now the current ubuntu LTS release. Barries quirky tahr is far removed from puppy now it does not have a frugal setup, and has moved away from the standard puppy. os . to fit in with Barries new ideas adn focus.
