My graphics card is similar to yours and I was able to compile the
proprietary nvidia driver for it.
I have devx-6.0.5-tahr.pet,kernel_src-3.12.6-patched.pet,
linux_kernel-3.12.6-nopae-aufs-squashfsbuiltin-i486-quirky6.pet
installed and I downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-304.119.run proprietary driver from the
nvidia web site.
You need to exit to the prompt and enter "sh
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-304.119.run" no quotes, it will prompt saying that
the nouveau driver is installed and ask if you want the installer to
try to remove it, choose yes then reboot.
After rebooting and back at the prompt do
"sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-304.119.run" again.
It will now show an error message about gcc version mismatch and ask
if you want to abort, say no and it will compile the driver, when it
has finished it will ask if you want to update the xorg.conf
automatically, say yes and when you are back at the prompt reboot.
After rebooting the proprietary driver will be working.

Childproofing |
|
Re: blog point 14. Child-proofing. Optional, make PC hard drives invisible.
From Barry's blog link & after reading the Ubuntu spiel,
in plain english, is this harmful to hard drives or SSDs
with an existing OS installed?
How does making a hard drive invisible, reconcile with people
who want to install Q Tahr or Q T2 to their pc hard drive partition,
rather than as simply portable on a flashdrive?
Does "invisibility" cloaking protect the HD from virus infections?
Am somewhat apprehensive where this is all going.
To the uninitiated this is dark territory - uncharted waters.
Would appreciate serious clarification.

QT 6.0.5 Subject description: Mouse cursor themes. |
|
My QT 6.0.5 report:
Trying to get "cursor_themes-1.1" {".gz" downloaded first, then linked to ".pet" from "ETP" {Tnx!}..It installed with no Menu entry so I do not know what to do next. Sorry to be a 59 y/o noob and I am little slow at navigating around because my eyesight is getting dimmer.
I think new cursor themes are in "/root/.icons" but I do not know how to set "default"
So then I downloaded "pcursor.pet"..installed OK and has entry in "Menu > Desktop > pcursor"
"clicked" on that and shows a blank table {no theme to select} how can i populate the list ? {I understand must re-start-X to change}
Any Hints?
TNX Again!

Hi Bobtron,
1. Having installed the .pet and restarted x the "Pcur cursor selector" choice off the desktop menu should be populated.
2. Select "whitelarge" then restart x again.
3. Assuming success:.......... cd /fridge/beer | drink && fallover.

Hi Bobtron,
In /root/.icons/ can you see the 27 folders containing each of the cursor themes?
Does PPM show the cursor_themes-1-1 pet as being installed?
Try clicking again on the pet you downloaded from the link that I posted. It sounds as though it is not installed.

Ah! Remove (i.e. uninstall) that pcursor-0.1 pet. (The selector is already built into Puppy, it is just the extra themes that are not)

Pre download as much fun pets as possible and help the little tike personalized desktop.
Then allow them to go hog wild on there own..
Never give them the option to hurt themselves or your files. period..

I don't think I have seen anyone in this thread mention OPENVPN yet, so I thought I would report that I have openvpn up and running on Quirky Tahr 6.0.5, using openvpn_2.3.2 from the PPM/Ubuntu repository.
Although openvpn can be run from the terminal, I am using a GUI facilitator, GADMIN-openvpn-client. This is available also in the Ubuntu repository as version 0.1.2-4, but I have compiled a later version from the maintainer with bug fixes etc.; compiled it under Quirky Tahr 6.05/devx-6.0.5.
GADMIN also has an openvpn server in the Ubuntu repository, but I use the client to connect to a commercial openvpn service provider. GADMIN-openvpn-client-0.1.9 will import config files downloaded from commercial openvpn service providers, and it is a fairly straightforward process to set up a connection. One can enable activation of the program at boot, so that anytime the browser is used, it is working through an encrypted tunnel.
I went ahead and made a PET of GADMIN-openvn-client-0.1.9, should anyone else be interested.

On my HP Compaq 6510b I put the rfkill line into the rc.d/rc.networking_basic file. I placed it at the top right before the networking entries start. I only use the unblock all option so I don't need more than one line.
Thank you, Barry, for the newer Quirky Tahr. It has made my hobby much more enjoyable. Keep up fantastic work. I am learning more now than I have in a long time.
