Portable Firefox Subject description: Firefox code, settings, bookmarks, all in one folder |

firefox-portable-0.8.2.tar.gz (2014-07-15)

Also available Google Chrome Portable --> http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=91689
Portable SeaMonkey --> http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=92015
Portable Firefox places the Firefox with its configuration files in a folder to utilize it without installing it in the puppy space(pupsave).
You can install firefox with a sfs to save your pupsave, but your pupsave is used when the firefox is updated. You can download and extract the archive of the firefox without installation, but the cash and the downloading internet files may consume your pupsave.
The Portable Firefox holds the Firefox code, its settings, cache and downloads in the same 'firefox-portable' folder, so that they are free from the 'Puppy space' and not limited by the pupsave size.
Tested on Precise-571JP. May works with most of Puppy 5.x. Wary/Racy need dbus and dbus-glib installed. The Portable Firefox automatically downloads the most recent Firefox, which may not work with Puppy 4.x. You can get a firefox 17 tarball from the web and drop it on the Portable Firefox GUI.
The flashplayer not included. Install it if you need.

Test successfull in wary 5.3 and latest firefox (I use glibc and libstdc++ upgrade). The Noscript and Adblock buttons are upward (in the manual install they are down). Googletalk works. Only a little bug: I have to push every time the Initial Page button because firefox starts every time at file:///usr/share/doc/home.htm.

Yeah, a new member named ryangiggs did overflow the forum with spam posts. I think your post has been a victim of some kind of -more or less- automated removing of new posts.
Though, your account seems not to be removed - ryangiggs's one is of course.

Will be fixed in next version, but you can comment out the line 212 in the script firefox-portable.
Code: | #[ "$EXECPARAM" ] || EXECPARAM="$HOMEPAGE" |
Thanks.

Another issue with the firefox-portable-0.2:
The firefox still make the cache under /root/.cache/mozilla/firefox.
To be fixed in next version...
EDIT: 2014-02-15
Currently automatic dowwnloading fails.
Wait until fixed release.

Thanks Shinobar. I feel sadness that so few care about
your Portable FF GEM there. I should test this and
the Chrome version
but I have recently failed at so much that software that
I don't dare to try it out just now so I mark as to follow
and see if you get more feedback from others first..

Worked really well for me under Slacko 5.7 PAE (Frugal DVD). BIG THX.
Nice to have the browser independent/outside of savefile completely.
Created a directory on a ext3 hard disk partition, dropped in the file, extracted and ran and voila - latest firefox, option to import existing bookmarks and great.
I'm relatively new and my first remastered puppy had loads of things installed. Now I've gone the other way and have remastered a lean Slacko 5.7 with no browser, but shinobar's portable firefox file included in the home directory, ready to be copied outside of savefile space and setup. Reduced the ISO down by around 30MB.
Together with a few other tweaks. mplayer full screen bug fix. ROX set to double clicks. evince instead of epdfview, and inclusion of a driver I need for my usb wireless adapter. I've also removed gnumeric, abiword and inchscape (draw) as a libre office sfs can replace all of those. Uploading it now for the potential benefit of others.

Thank you for this, I switch pups so often it's extra useful for me to be able to use one Firefox for them all. I installed it in oldyellers fluxbox pup and swapped in my .mozilla file from another puppy. All works! Many thanks.
