This nice little welcome screen should be seen in other languages
from the beginning
even before a langpack is installed

Programm files are in next post

Translations have to be updated because of some changes:
- Puppy or Slacko or Quirky.....
- 3 different messages depending on state of connection

It is planned (by 01micko) to include all available translations of this into slacko. Others might follow.

See translations (in alphabetic order) on this page:
Español
Nederlands
Türkçe

Or download
welcome1stboot_NLS that contains all available translations and will always be updated here

TRANSLATE

Using momanager (makes sense if you re-use old translations):
- Copy following Code to /usr/share/doc/nls/welcome1stboot/welcome1stboot.pot
- Start momanager
- Select welcome1stboot from combobox at bottom
- translate
- post resulting file here

Or without momanager:
post translated file here

Code: Select all

Ooops again, it's not a good day for translating it seems. I concentrated so much on the text itself, that I missed a giant typo in the very first fat word "welcome".
(see screenshot: the letter 'L' is missing from "welkom")

Re-uploaded the corrected file. Apologies L18L...

I thought there was a version of welcome1stboot that solved that part. :(

The Spanish langpack has a shortened version because of that, I'll repost in a few minutes.

Thank you. I let the old pictures stay under the new picture above so that others can see what we were talking abot...
vicmz wrote:L18L, what Puppy version are you running?
At the moment it is precise 5.7.1
The executable welcome1stboot is in 2nd post of this thread.
It has been compiled (from welcome1stboot.bac) in Quirky tahr 6.0.3.

Now let us hope that some other translations will follow....

Ok.. but IF FILEEXISTS("/etc/resolv.conf") might be a better test (will exist if lan connected at first boot). I don't have that one Barry refers to, must be new in quirky.

Also, can the button be greyed out at all?

Think that this question does not concern translated texts, right?
Sorry, I have no idea how to grey out a button.

My welcome1stboot is designed to work in Quirky.
It is called from /usr/sbin/delayedrun, which creates the files that are read in welcome1stboot.

01micko,

hope that Barry's comment helps you.

If there is anything that slacko should handle differently let me know it
and I will convert your shell code to BaCon code.

Thanks Barry,

Sorry L18L for off topic. Do we need a separate thread, getting confusing finding latest source.

Anyway, I know how to make the button insensitive, just took a look in hug.bac

Code: Select all

ATTACH(mainwin,label_c,571,172)
IF FILEEXISTS(internet_test_file_goes_here) THEN
 DISABLE(button_ic)
ENDIF

Thanks mick, easy to remember for disabled and gray outed ones

Pointers to actual code will always be in 2nd post of this thread besides a 32bit executable.
This may take a while as I am not at home today. Posting from quirky tahr on usb stick on daughter's laptop.

I think it is a good idea to disable the connect button if the connection is already done.
I know from own experience that if this button is clicked by accident then the connection is broken, Not good in a Welcome First Boot.
One might say: the text has also to be changed in grayout case--- but who is reading text? or if they read it there are other methods mentioned in the text,

I do not think all of this is really OT. There is no better fitting section on this forum.
